Axler or Shilov for Linear Algebra?
Thanks :) I'll get Shilov then. And look into your notes. :) Hopefully I'll complete LA and AC during my holidays and next year I can do RA and IA while revising LA and AC :)- EmSeeSquared

Axler or Shilov for Linear Algebra?
Hi all, So I'm going to have my first exposure to linear algebra and I've completed Calc 1 and 2. I've seen Axler and Shilov numerous times and I'm having a hard time choosing it. Here's my syllabus for my Linear Algebra Course. Matrices, Gauss reduction, invertibility. Vector spaces, linear...- EmSeeSquared

The books required to become a Pure Mathematician
Hi mathwonk. I actually got most of these books from your thread :) But the thing is exactly like what you said. several books contain more or less the same stuff and I want to narrow them down. Here's an idea of my curriculum for my math major. I need a book(or more, whichever is better) on...- EmSeeSquared

The books required to become a Pure Mathematician
Hi all, So I'm finishing my first year in college and I did Calculus(based on Stewart). However, I don't feel I learned a lot during this year. There were not many proofs, the only proofs I studied was induction and contradiction(and some proofs in Stewart). I honestly do not like the book at...- EmSeeSquared

Is a B in Calculus 1 and 2 the end for me?
Same here. I didn't study, didn't do my homework. But in the end I decided I had to work and managed to do decent in my finals. I hope I've changed for the better. Deep down I love what I do, just was lazy. Now I'm looking forward to next year where I will do more in depth stuff which I'm sure...- EmSeeSquared

Is a B in Calculus 1 and 2 the end for me?
Thanks people. It's nice too see some great comeback. This setback is what has become my motivation to do better. My love for math is still here, I probably was just lost. But this experience has been an eye opener. :)- EmSeeSquared

Is a B in Calculus 1 and 2 the end for me?
Hi all, So I'm pretty devastated(and I'm to be blamed). I'm a first year cs and math major. So the thing is my math course is a full year course with 5 class tests and 2 finals(worth 2/3 of the final mark) Slacking off and poor time management gave me the privilege of failing all my class...- EmSeeSquared

Using Spivak and Apostol Calculus in parallel?
The famous MIT lectures. I have the whole series on iTunesU. I started watching some but stopped half way I guess, since I thought it was taking too much of my time. I guess I'll watch the rest now :)- EmSeeSquared

Using Spivak and Apostol Calculus in parallel?
It's not really a proof course but we do have some proofs. Induction, contradiction and the rest are those in the chapters, such as MVT, FTC, some proofs of derivatives(first principles) and some conbinatorics proofs(very simple and easy). And maybe some more. But most questions are solve, and...- EmSeeSquared

Using Spivak and Apostol Calculus in parallel?
I've taken a look at the books and since Apostol seems to cover more than Spivak, I'll be working only though Apostol. Since I use Stewart in college. I'll just do the exercises in Stewart as a complement to Apostol. As for Spivak, I'll just read it "like a novel"(not doing exercises). Apostol...- EmSeeSquared

Let's say I do only Spivak's book, will it give me a good background to proceed to R.A, LA?- EmSeeSquared

Using Spivak and Apostol Calculus in parallel?
That's a good idea I thought about, but won't I be missing on practice? On the bright side, if I manage to do this, it means I'll be really good with my concepts, since I'll be using them after weeks to do the practice problems. How about learn the concepts do 3-4 simple questions to get the...- EmSeeSquared

Using Spivak and Apostol Calculus in parallel?
Hi all, So I got 2 months exactly before my exams and since I want to start from 0 again because I realized my base is not very well founded. So I'll take this weekend to go through my pre-calculus again and start my Spivak-Apostol schedule Monday. I need to polish my maths, start with the...- EmSeeSquared

Learning Electromagnetism before classical mechanics?
Thanks. But I guess I'll try to focus more on Electromagnetism and simultaneously read classical mechanics. I'm a computer science major but I did physics since I loved it. I still do but I did bad at classical mechanics and I feel bad about myself. Maybe I didn't practice enough since all I...- EmSeeSquared
