Reliability of Sources: Questioning & Rejecting

It's a message board that is mostly about science similar to this site. They have a major rule to back up statements with valid evidence so for them to close a thread that has verified sources with thei reason used is very strange. I agree, a message board is not how real science is done, but...

Reliability of Sources: Questioning & Rejecting

The difference is the topic in question is not theoretical it's about a scientific law. So wouldn't it be safe to say that one side must be correct because scientific laws are not subjective? I don't think the sources negate established science they just back how a scientific law is used. By...

Reliability of Sources: Questioning & Rejecting

I seen on another site where a user called out the site moderators for ignoring facts of science from a previous thread. They used what appeared to be reliable sources that went against the site moderators. What got my curiosity level up is how the thread was closed quickly by the moderator...

Where Are the Wasps? - Population Drop in Rural Areas

I too live in Florida. I've been here for six years. I still haven't seen much of any wasp activity this year. Last year, I found it odd that a black and yellow mud dauber built her nest. so low off the ground. The nest got destroyed by some kind of animal but it was after most of the larvae...

Where Are the Wasps? - Population Drop in Rural Areas

I live a rural area and usually at this time of year wasps are abundant but I hardly seen any this summer. The old barn usually has the buzzing of mud daubers when they make a nest, usually peaking around the beginning of July but this summer the barn has been eeriely quite. The only time wasp...

How to Estimate Tensile Force on a Pre-Tensioned Rope?

Simple model indeed. I overlooked it.

Lawn/Garden Improving noise reduction for ear muffs

No, there are acoustic and thermal muffs. There's no sense in using more layers than the original. The orginal linings have split apart and not usable.

How to Estimate Tensile Force on a Pre-Tensioned Rope?

I figure that there is a connection with how much a given forces displaces the rope in the perpendicularly direction. Obviously the more tension on the rope then there will be less displacement with a given force. I'm not sure how to progress from that point. Any other ideas on how to estimate...

Lawn/Garden Improving noise reduction for ear muffs

The lining on my ear muffs which contact the ears, developed cracks and eventually split apart. I decided to try and repair the muffs, so they would have noise reducing qualties than those were better than any typical store bought muffs. Unfortunately, the finished product, reduced the outside...

B Odds of Drawing Sequence 4457: Calculating Probability

You fully explained everything that I asked.

B Odds of Drawing Sequence 4457: Calculating Probability

I'm not sure how to define the sample space. The original problem dealt with the last four digits of phone number whose sequence seemed intentional. Another problem involved solving a 4 digit passcode with digits 0 to 9. How would you define the sample space in those cases?

B Odds of Drawing Sequence 4457: Calculating Probability

I don't understand. Maybe code wasn't the best description. This a good explanation. Ok. I wanted to compare drawing that particular sequence vs drawing those particular numbers. To find the odds of drawing those particular numbers without regards to the order would I divide all the...

B Odds of Drawing Sequence 4457: Calculating Probability

Suppose we have a code: 4457 If these numbers are randomly drawn what are the odds of drawing those numbers? Here's my approach: The available numbers range from 0123456789 and there are four columns, minus the numbers which were drawn gives: 1/(10^4-4)~0.01% Now what about the odds of...

How to get credit for a mathematics discovery?

I figure out a way to evaluate an integral with an antiderivative with elementary functions which had previously only been defined by an anitderivative that was not an elementary function. Everything checks outs. I used 3 regular substitutions and a trigonometric substitution and I just have to...
