Engineering Physicist or Petroleum Engineer?
I mostly agree with Soda. I'd take the Petroleum Engineering degree, get an adequately high paying job right after college, save up; the, jump back into college for your PhD, after you've saved up enough. Mind you, I don't jumping back in will be that easy. I guess that I'd get Masters in...- grendle7

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?
Just to let you know, it's MUCH harder to get into Berea, than Harvard. G'luck! Out of the "foreign students" pool of accepted students, only 30 aspiring applicants can be chosen, out of thousands. I'd still apply, if I were you. Just cross your fingers for good outcomes, from crazy...- grendle7

Is this a complete undergrad pure math curriculum?
Actually, what micromass is probably telling the truth and not exaggerating; and, I say this because the university curriculums in Mexico/Argentina are really similar to what he mentioned. For example, if you're accepted to study pure mathematics at the University of Guanajuato (some Mexican...- grendle7

What classes do I need to major in Cryptography?
OHMYGOSH Thank you so much. I'm starting with Udacity's beginning Computer Science course. I can't wait to get to their cryptography course. I enrolled in Coursera's Vaccines course. I can't wait... Oh, and are you aware of MIT Open Course Ware? It's no where as cool as...- grendle7

What classes do I need to major in Cryptography?
Georgetown University (the "Ivy League" of Catholic Schools) offers a course in cryptography. And, I'm not familiar with majors in cryptography, or why they'd exist. The purpose of undergraduate majors, in my opinion, are to broaden your scope in a general field. Specialization comes later...- grendle7

News California Governor Jerry Brown Proposes Spending Cuts
Hey, Thomas. The accepted word is "getting cuts," according to my Euro penpals. Still, I'll consider writing a letter to Merriam-Webster Inc. that the adjective "austerized" is on the prowl! [lulz] And, like you mentioned in your last short-paragraph, it could have its bad consequences. If...- grendle7

A statistician will always have a job?
So, the type of profession which I choose to apply my expertise in also has a lot do with whole thing, eh? Would any of you know about job opportunities across the Americas? I'd actually be quite fine with moving across the Americas, for a job in statistics. I'm fluent in all of the elite...- grendle7

Pure Math Preparation (the ultimate high school / pre-university book thread)
Howers, and everyone else, I would really like to thank all of you for putting together and responding (post to post) in this thread. I, being a slave of the public education system, have never really had the privilege to have a good mathematics class. I mean, even my AP Calculus class was...- grendle7

A statistician will always have a job?
[Lulz] Which reminds me that I'm also interested in cryptography, but it's not for sure. I haven't even taken calculus three, yet. So, I feel like I can't really speak for how great the upper-division mathematics classes are, or mathematical probability. Lot's of "ifs" ar'implied there.- grendle7

A statistician will always have a job?
True. According to the U.S. Department of Labour, 1/3 of statisticians are employed by the government. I'd agree with you, on the marketableness of taking on abstract algebra. You'll gain plenty of applicable universal skills, but not attain instant applicableness to direct empirical topics; as...- grendle7

A statistician will always have a job?
"A statistician will always have a job?" I attended a college fair, where one would meet the department chair of each program, and inquire about one's interests. I, obviously, was talking to the mathematics department chair, about job prospects, opportunities, and potentiality with the...- grendle7

Engineering Can't choose between actuarial science, accounting, and engineering
You are in major luck! I have recently created a Youtube playlist which generally introduces one into the occupation of Actuarial Science. Beware, it is just the tip of the iceberg, so don't feel as if you know everything about after watching it. I am also aspiring to, possibly, be an actuary...- grendle7
