B.S Physics to M.S Electrical Engineering
Hello everyone, and especially people who are doing Electrical Engineering. I am doing M.S Physics now, almost finished first year but I realize that research at higher level is not my venue. I suck at it. While undergrad i took some mech eng and mat science classes, however my funds were...- haplo

Books: solid state, statistical, elementary particle physics
Look at " Electromagnetic FIelds and Waves", by Lorian and Corson. Amazing Electromagnetism text! Quantum Mechanics, I really like text by Robinett. ( I wish I had anwsers to some of his problems)- haplo

What is the difference between personal statement and statement of purpose
Some graduate schools I am applying to require both while do not give specific directions of what to include in each . This lack of directions makes me very confused about what to put in each category. I have done some research and have rough idea, however I am not sure. So if you can help me I...- haplo

Discussing the Coriolis Force & a Projectile's Missed Target
Hi guys, there is a problem I am having hard time interpreting, so I wonder if you can share your thoughs. Here it is. Homework Statement a projectile is launched due north from a point in colatitude /theta at angle pi/4 to the horizontal and aimed at target whose distance is y (small compared...- haplo

What is good way to prepare for graduate Electromagnetism
Hello everybody. I would like to ask anyone who have taken graduate electrodynamics with jackson. What do you think is the best way to prepare yourself to graduate electromagnetism by Jackson, if only electromagnetism by Griffith is covered during undergrad. In particular, what...- haplo

Looking for help with one problem. Classical Mechanics Kibble
I figured it. By finding the distance of closest apporach and setting it to the Radius of a star R. From there I obtained the value of impact maximum parameter b for which particle will still collide. After that the problem gets very easy. Thanks for help- haplo

Solving Another Kibble Problem - Homework Statement & Equations
It was one of my guesses. If the second keplers law is used than dt=constant/da= J/(2*m*da) . I just fail to see why suddenly Pi appears in the denominator, as if they divided area by a*b*Pi- haplo

Looking for help with one problem. Classical Mechanics Kibble
Thanks for reply, Sorry,I should have been more specific. Tthe problem states that you have to show that rate of mass accumulation is described by following equation: dm/dt= pi*rho*v*(R^2+2*G*m*R/v^2) where R is the radius of the star and v it's velocity. Also the problems asks you to...- haplo
