Projection Problem Homework: Describe Vector V in Terms of a and b
Homework Statement The projection of the vector V onto (a,b) = (a,b) The projection of the vector V onto (-b,a) = (-b,a) Describe V in terms of a and b Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I let V=(x,y) then place that into the projection equation for each to get...- himynameismar

How can I find the norm of X in terms of a and b when X is orthogonal to (-a,b)?
Using the projection formula I get [(ax1+bx2)/(a^2+b^2)]*(a,b)=(a,b) so therefore x1=a and x2=b so you get 1*(a,b)=(a,b) Here I get -ax1+bx2=0 which I rearrange to bx2+ax1 Then I get X=SqRt(a^2+b^2) but I don't think this is right. Can anyone point out where I'm making an error?- himynameismar

How can I find the norm of X in terms of a and b when X is orthogonal to (-a,b)?
Homework Statement I'm stuck on this review problem for our final: The projection of X onto (a,b) = (a,b) X is orthogonal to (-a,b) Describe the norm of X in terms of a and b. The Attempt at a Solution I drew everything out on a Cartesian system, with the vector X being perpendicular to...- himynameismar

Is Biophysics or Biotechnology a Better Undergraduate Program for Me?
I'm currently a Biophysics undergrad and at my University and we aren't really offered any real "Biophysics" courses really. Biophysics consists of us taking mainly physics course along with Biology/Genetics courses, Chemistry courses, and OChem courses. We're given the chance to take a couple...- himynameismar
