Can Gambling and Probability Puzzles Enhance Cognitive Skills?

For some reason, I can't figure out if the distribution I get for part (a) is correct (as pretty much the rest of your answers would be wrong if you don't get the right distribution): x -11 -10 1 9 Pr(X) (1/37) (32/37) (2/37) (1/37) Can anyone...

Can Gambling and Probability Puzzles Enhance Cognitive Skills?

Hey everyone, I was given this fun little probability question from my tutor after I finished early in one of my classes about three weeks back, and I just can't seem to crack it! Something about gambling and probability makes my brain go haywire (or maybe its some other, deeper problem...

Binomial, Poisson and Normal Probability distribution help

So are we supposed to be getting approximately the same values for the Poisson, Binomial and Normal Distributions? The answer's I got were: BTW, before I start, I calculated the mean for the Binomial,Poission and Normal distributions using E(X)=np=100*0.1=10. And I calculated the variance using...

Binomial, Poisson and Normal Probability distribution help

So for question 2., I'd use a Cumulative Probability Distribution function ,as I am finding the probability of 'less than or equal to' and 'greater than or equal to'. Is this correct??

Binomial, Poisson and Normal Probability distribution help

Binomial, Poisson and Normal Probability distribution help! Hey everyone, I've just started a new section on probability (argh) in my math course, and unlike most other maths, I cannot cope! Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I did the following question correctly! Any helps...

    Probability and Statistics Questions

Probability and Statistics Questions! Hey everyone, I've got a Statistics project due on Wednesday and I've got it all pretty much done except for a couple of questions. The ones I've got a problem with are in bold. Question 1. Airlines usually over-book the seats on an aircraft by a...

Find a parametric equation of the line

lol oops, I used vectors from a previous question(I've been awake for about 23 hours). Thanks for the clarification dynamicsolo I ended up using those two dot product equations to get the values, t=2/3 and s=0. I subbed those into the original parametric equations to get: Superman= <8/3, 1/3...

    Famous integral's of exponiental

Okay, I tried that 'find the volume of the cylinder question again: 1. First I Integrated C(r), the Area of the bell over the xz plane, to get: V= -pi [ [exp]^(-r^(2)) - 1 ],upper boundary=∞, lower boundary=0 2. The next question asks, show that the top of the bell is the graph of the...

    Famous integral's of exponiental

ohh sorry, lol do you mean its supposed to read as follows: V= -pi*( [exp]^(-∞) -1)

Find a parametric equation of the line

I got up to here (bold lettering) but I got two equations (with both variables s and t), as -4+2s+3t-2s^(2)=0 equation (1) -2+2s-t+3t^(2)=0 equation (2) Where do I go from here? I tried making t=2s-2+3t^(2) but no matter which way I do it, I still end up with both variables :s.

    Famous integral's of exponiental

Hey Tiny-tim, thanks for the welcome. I look forward to begging you, and other posters for help :). Anyway, yeah I got the answer for the volume as V = -pi(e+∞ - 1) . I'm looking very hard and I don't know what mistake I've done. Is it supposed to be the other way around?

Find a parametric equation of the line

Hi, I've got these 2 questions left on an advanced Mathematics assignment (due Monday morning :( ) that I've been trying to crack but I'm not sure if what I have done is correct. Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Question: (1) (a) According to the Flat Mars Society, Mars is also a plane...
