Graduate Radiation pressure and unpolarized light
Hello, I found myself a little bit lost in those concepts. Assume there are many linearly polarized plane waves, all with equal amplitudes, all traveling along z direction, and their polarizations are uniformly distributed in xy plane. Then by superposition principle amplitude of total...- housemartin

How Does a Spring Affect the Motion of a Rocket?
Hi ho! for a) Your assumption about equal potential energies is simply wrong (you can always add a constant to potential energy). What matters is difference in potential energy, not a numerical value at certain point in space. Since it is said that rocket is at rest, you can be sure that the...- housemartin

Finding Acceleration Homework Solution
If you are associating coordinate X with moving truck (truck's beginning or end), then Vi should be cars speed relative to the truck, not 80 [km/h]. Distances are given in meters, time in seconds, speed in kilometers per hour. So first make all units to be the same. Don't put different types of...- housemartin

Is the Solution for the Block's Acceleration on an Accelerating Wedge Correct?
well i made few mistakes in my solution, forgot to divide by two and mixed + and - sign in one place. So my final answer is ay = (A-g)/2. What is pseudo i don't know ;] if it's F = -mA, this is kinda way i did this problem. Just i have no idea how to bring this in a simple way.- housemartin

Is the Solution for the Block's Acceleration on an Accelerating Wedge Correct?
Hello, Homework Statement A 45o wedge is pushed along a table with constant acceleration A. A block of mass m slides without friction on the wedge. Find its acceleration in y direction. (Gravity directed down, acceleration due to gravity is g)...- housemartin

Internal explosion, kinetic energy prob
You don't need that (mgy). Energy released in the explosion will go into kinetic energy of two pieces. And will linear momentum be conserved in this case? if so, use this fact.- housemartin

Do the Bananas Move When the Monkey Climbs?
well, if monkey just hangs on the rope what forces acts on monkey and on bananas box? Does net force on banana box or on the monkey change when monkey climbs with constant velocity? If monkey moves up with acceleration, acceleration requires a force, but force always comes in pair from...- housemartin

Inelastic collision, two cars approach each other at intersection.
Momentum is a vector quantity, just draw those two vectors. That collision is inelastic, means that two masses stick together and travel as one after collision. But because, momentum is conserved, both components of momentum will be conserved too (x and y components). You can simply spot right...- housemartin

Frequency and angular frequency of sinusoidal vibrations in s.h.m.
I think you got the answer right. if you think its large, look at acceleration, it's quite large too, and displacement amplitude is small...- housemartin

How to Solve the Impulse Problem with a 70-g Steel Ball in Contact with a Plate
I don't get why do you have those 2.00 s here. What is balls velocity when it hits the plate? When it re-bounces? How is change in momentum related to to impulse?- housemartin

Inelastic collision, two cars approach each other at intersection.
your equation: m1vo1 + m2vo2 = (m1 + m2)V is for one dimensional case. But you have a 2D problem. Momentum is conserved, and so is its y and x components.- housemartin
