Engineering Co-Op programs are they worth it?

Same here, at a big shop nonetheless, and it was a waste of my time. Internships during the summer work out fine and do not have the associated chip on shoulders issue. A few $s and low level experince might not be worth the cost. :)

Engineering Co-Op programs are they worth it?

Well, that seems awfully spot on for what you wrote. Thanks for the support. Frankly, it seems to me, that you would be wasting your time if you know you want to go to graduate school and take a co-op/job.

Maximizing My Transfer for Top Grad Schools: Consider These Factors

I do not think anyone is arguing that you should stay at your current school if you continue to pay full cost. However, I do think you should look at state schools etc to bring your cost way down. As the above post mentions shine during your undergrad and let the big names pay your way.

Engineering Co-Op programs are they worth it?

If you want to get a job, then do the co-op. If you want to go to grad school, then do not do a co-op.

Maximizing My Transfer for Top Grad Schools: Consider These Factors

You really need to rethink your current financial situation. That is a huge amount to pay. Maybe go to the scholarship department with your 4.0 and apply to a state school. The amount of burden you are putting on your future self is *huge*. Frankly, you could not afford to do research with such...

Can I Pass the GRE Math Subject Test with a Lightweight Math Education?

At least you are aware of your relative strength. When I was in my grad program, one of the students had a mental break down due to the fact they got crushed by the coursework and had no idea how flimsy their background was. On paper it sounded impressive, but ouch. Not pretty. However, you...

Funding Issue: Interpretation Troubles in Ph.D. Program

Fair enough, either go this year or continue to work “on the street.”

    Power Systems/Nuclear Engineering

Power systems will allow the option to move into energy trading if you want. Interesting subject, but keep in mind there is no "best" in this game.

Are these likely to bolster my standings?

LORS payoff. Stay active and involved with people that have power and can credibly judge potential and you will do fine.

Courses Should I Take Graduate Quantum Mechanics or Stick with Solid State Courses?

Which one do you like more? You can take graduate courses when you are in graduate school. So if you are maximizing your gpa etc for graduate school that seems to imply something, too.

What is a good programming language to learn for Mech E ?

I would vote Matlab, too. However, I think that learning proper and clean coding is more important than any language, i.e., learning OOP etc. Languages and software are what you make them. VBA is aesthetically repellent to me, but sometimes that is all you have. I would wait until you are...

Funding Issue: Interpretation Troubles in Ph.D. Program

The point of no return is quickly approaching. If I go, then I could be in a political minefield, or I could be fine. Nonetheless good mathematics would be around. If I stay, I play it safe and live in a little box made of ticky-tacky, but good mathematics around? Maybe… Anyone have any final...

Ivy Leaguers' Big Edge: Starting Pay

Keep in mind that when you enter the work force (business cycle) and if you *could* get acceptance to an Ivy are significant factors, with the first being the stronger for prediction of earnings over one's life time and the latter showing up in mid career (iirc). Edit: Of course this was...

Is Computational Finance a Good Career Choice?

Judging from some of your questions you need to look harder, try wilmott.com and nuclear phynance as start. % Cranky mode off However, you definitely need a graduate degree.

Programs Making a Career in Physics Outside of Academia

Since you can program (at the OOP level I hope) you are good to go; yet, need to add a internship before you graduate to make things a bit easier on yourself (well a lot). However, likely London would be easier to get access to than the US, now from what I understand. Funny, I was just...
