Homework Statement
Some gliders are launched from the ground by means of a winch, which rapidly reels in a towing cable attached to the glider. What average power must the winch supply in order to accelerate a 189-kg ultralight glider from rest to 20.5 m/s over a horizontal distance of 52.2...
Homework Statement
A speedboat starts from rest and accelerates at +2.03 m/s2 for 8.87 s. At the end of this time, the boat continues for an additional 8.86 s with an acceleration of +0.380 m/s2. Following this, the boat accelerates at -1.20 m/s2 for 8.11 s. (a) What is the velocity of the...
I do not believe the Special theory of relativity is in correct, however the question did come up in class the other day.
If some people do believe it to be incorrect, than what are some of these theories as to why it is in correct? I was just wondering and curious about the whole subject. I...
So what do you mean by stationary points? does that mean the distance to the plant and the speed ?
so if the planet it 12 light years away then
Distance = 12 x 10^16m
= 1.2 x 10^17 m
and then taking Bill's speed of 0.93c, does it need to be converted to m/s ?
so : 0.93 x the speed...
By now i must be driving you guys crazy with my relativity questions , but this is my last one! i swear! =]

Homework Statement
Two twins, Bill and Ben are 30.0 years old and they leave Earth for a distant planet 12.0 light years away. The twins depart at the same time on Earth, and travel in different space ships. Bill travels at 0.93c, while Ben travels at 0.70c. What is the difference between...
yes it states weight and i think i have an idea of how to do it using the formula
M= Mo / [√ 1 - v^2/ c^2]
where Mo is 78kg and velocity is 0.93c
M= 78 / [√ 1 - (0.93c^2)^2/ c^2]
M= 78 / [√ 1 - 0.93c^2]
M=212.2105291kg
So the weight would be approximately 212.2 kg
is this correct working and...
ok so would that mean that that t would be the time in the spaceship ? 30 minutes which converts to 1800 seconds?
then velocity is simply 0.93c and substituting these values into the equation we get:
t'= t / (√ 1 - v^2/ c^2)
t'= 1800 / [√ 1 - (0.93c^2)^2/ c^2]
t'= 1800 / [√ 1 - 0.93c^2]...
