Are We Truly Happy? Take the Happiness Poll Now!
Actually, I asked because I hoped you knew. When I read "Red Green", I remembered that episode but not how it ended. All I remember is that the emergency duct-tape held behind the glass was so old it disintegrated on touch. Also, I saw you listed Black Adder. That show had two special moments...- ingenvector

Hello fellow Canuck. You wouldn't happen to remember the episode when the Possum Lodge ran out of duct-tape, would you?- ingenvector

I've been staring at these definitions for a while now
I'll give my view on this. Keep in mind, there usually no set definitions, much of philosophical reading is highly contextual. Parsimony - The creed to simplicity. This is not always justified, but the basis is that the idea can be subjected to probabilistic analysis which generally favours...- ingenvector

How would one choose between Solipsism and Realism/materialism?
Ah, metaphysics. The first thing to remember about metaphysics is how expansive it is. Essentially, you are facing two primary problems. First, one must begin with a theory of ontology which is entirely arbitrary. As well, in metaphysical space, there is no meaningful comparison of what is more...- ingenvector

Programs What Do Math Majors Wish They Knew Before Graduation?
Actually, I think I may know what you are asking after all. Let me backtrack since I was drunk with sleepiness when I wrote that post, as I am also now I suppose. But I digress... In the context of visualisation, the most visual aspects of set theory are generally those which were first...- ingenvector

Undergrad Misunderstanding in Fundamental Concept
Well, cars are usually engineered to have large impulse times, but considering an ideal frame made of some remarkably strong material, it could be that it won't be crushed in most normal car crash scenarios, but this is somewhat fanciful. However, the frame has a limited range of tolerance, and...- ingenvector

Programs What Do Math Majors Wish They Knew Before Graduation?
You do bring up a good point. Though I personally think it's largely useless, symbolic logic does not lend itself to visualisation readily unless the problem is already defined as a relational problem. It is also important to algorithms, though I don't think people usually visualise flow charts...- ingenvector

Programs What Do Math Majors Wish They Knew Before Graduation?
Well, that's good at least. My university's physics department doesn't seem to require LaTeX, though it is the norm and they do provide a preamble for submission formatting. Regardless, LaTeX should be something that everyone in a scientific, mathematical, or engineering field should learn...- ingenvector

What can you expect in the Food Thread on PF?
Ha ha! No problem, I won't be too polemical, though I do tend to have crazy radical ideas when it comes to food. Still, noblesse obliges, and I see it as my sacred responsibility to guide the kinder to see that there is only one correct way. Alright, I'll be nice...- ingenvector

LyX actually uses MiKTeX which is what I learned LaTeX in, though it isn't source like TeXworks would be. I quite like MiKTeX, though there doesn't seem to be any definitive standards, and it is so far sufficient. It seems that most editors were made by some group who needed basic LaTeX...- ingenvector

What can you expect in the Food Thread on PF?
I was lucky in that I cam from a family with a food intensive background. My father is a master sausage maker master butcher with his trade master degrees in the fields from Germany, so I had a delicious upbringing working in his store surrounded by wonderful meat. Unfortunately, it also has...- ingenvector
