Is Time Merely Constant Change?
Time does not exist like some Aristotelian Form but is valid as a method of organizing events -- A happened "before" B but "after" C, etc. In the same way Left and Right do not exist in some independent sense but are valid decriptors of spatial location relative to a two-handed observer...- Jack Bauer

Graduate Experimenting with the speed of gravity
I think the best way to test it might be astronomical observations. If a planet or star's motion was shown to be affected by a change in another heavenly body's motion faster than could be explained by the "force" of gravity traveling between the two at the speed of light, the result would be...- Jack Bauer

Graduate Experimenting with the speed of gravity
I know there are 4-tesla magnets used for MRI at several academic centers. Would those be strong enough? But here is a different way: observe the changes in the paths of orbiting moons of Mars as one gets near the other. But then again, is gravity is only a deformation of space-time, it is...- Jack Bauer

Graduate Help me to introduction in superstring theory what is it ?
Would there be anything to considering a string theory in which the strings, instead of having finite lengths, extended indefinitely in space? Like a fine meshwork. Possibly two or three sets of intersecting strings.- Jack Bauer

Graduate Use neutrinos for communication?
Could we somehow develope a neutrino telephone? Since they pass through everything, you wouldn't have to deal with obstructions like buildings which are often an issue with cell phones.- Jack Bauer

Graduate Neutrino as alternative to Higgs boson
The Higgs boson was proposed to provide a mechanism for mass and is posited, as a field, to extend throughout the Universe. But this was before we started thinking the neutrino, which is also (almost) omnipresent, must have a mass. Could the neutrino substitute for the Higgs in this role?- Jack Bauer

Graduate Original location of the Big Bang
Marcus, thanks for the links. I just read the whole article -- really helpful. Some things occurred to me. If some objects are "receding" from us faster than the speed of light because of expansion of space, could this be a way of traveling faster than light? If we could somehow cause such...- Jack Bauer

High School Why is pi defined as C/d instead of C/r?
expressing the relation in terms of the radius doesn't say anything new, since the relation of d=2r is already known. Why not keep it as simple as possible?- Jack Bauer

Graduate Original location of the Big Bang
Would it be possible by comparison of expansion rates and directions at various points to back-extrapolate the location of the original Big Bang? Certainly in a local part of the universe, everything is expanding away from everything else with rates and directions as if the whole expansion were...- Jack Bauer

Graduate Is the curvature of the universe affected by dark energy and if so, how?
Not sure where to post this but I am puzzled by what seems to be a paradox concerning "wraparound" in 3-sphere universe and the expansion of the universe. If we could see to the edge of the universe and saw the opposite side because of "wraparound", would we see a red or a blue shift? Looking...- Jack Bauer
