I believe that the point being made by Les is that you cannot tell whether he is lying or not. That seems to be the focus rather than what is (potentially) being lied about. If I say that I am a liar, can you tell whether I am lying about being a liar?

Perhaps the point at which we understand the laws of physics is the point beyond which only contemplation functions, if anything at all can function in a sense we understand (at present).
