Help -- Linear to rotary motion, cw and ccw direction
It seems difficult to achieve with just one linear actuator; it may stop at a dead centre and get stuck. Billy-joule's suggestion seems a good approach.- jh0

Comparing Abaqus/Patran/Nastran for FEM Analysis
From your description it seems that the simulation involves plastic deformation. If this is the case, I'd say the problem is non-linear.- jh0

Hydraulic motor torque for a home-built flight simulator
I am no expert in hydraulic machinery, but lifting a heavy load with a lever attached to a motor does not seem a very good idea. Wouldn’t it be more straightforward to use a hydraulic cylinder instead?- jh0

Torque Amplification: Is It Over Unity?
Torque amplifiers rely on a motor; it is the torque of the motor with its own source of energy that drives the output shaft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque_amplifier- jh0

High School True?: Heat rises, so you can put thermostat lower upstairs
In my opinion radiatiative losses must be important, although surely smaller that convective losses. That's why temperatures drop considerably faster on clear nights compared to cloudy nights.- jh0

High School Is there even a scientific reason for this
Yes, it seems you have found one of the resonance frequencies of the room! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Room_modes- jh0

Using a bearing to replace a spring?
Gas springs, compression and tension coil springs, even rubber bands, all are going to use up a big space. Maybe some mainspring (spiral spring like in mechanical watches) can be pretty compact, but it will be more complicated: you will need to connect the mainspring to a cylinder with a some...- jh0

Calculating the force air has on an object
I'm not sure I fully understand the problem, but wouldn't it be easier to use the drag equation? It seems the bottles are pushed by an air current. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_equation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_coefficient- jh0

Undergrad Solve Physics Puzzle Problem - 200 Puzzling Physics Problems
I googled 200 puzzling physics problems pdf and the second link goes to a complete pdf of the book. I don't know if it is allowed to post a link due to copyright issues. Well, the correct solution is, as I expected, what c++guru said. You can find it in page 85 if you find the pdf. I do not see...- jh0

Heat disipation required to keep below a temp threshold
As berkeman pointed out, the heat that the processor has to dissipate is 100W. Due to the temperatures involved, almost all the heat transfer will be through convection: Q=hc·A·ΔT You know the power you have to dissipate (Q). Depending on the conditions (mainly the shape and position of the...- jh0

Can Plastic Gears Replace Metal in Industrial Machinery?
Plastic gears can be milled in the same manner as metal ones. Feed rates are greater and production is faster and cheaper. I do not see why they could not also be made by injection moulding for mass production, if the plastic is suitable and very high precision is not needed for the particular...- jh0

Can Plastic Gears Replace Metal in Industrial Machinery?
Of course plastic gears are used in industry. They are good for low loads, can run without lubrication, have dampening properties and are less noisy than steel gears. This was at the first page when I googled plastic gears...- jh0

How can I create affordable soundproofing for my apartment bedroom?
Soundproofing a room is really difficult. Take into account that if you just use absorptive materials inside your room you will reduce the reflection (reverberation) inside the room and will reduce the sound levels in general (also for sound generated inside the room), but not much. You mostly...- jh0
