Graduate What is the correct calculation for angular momentum of a planet?
I have another thought on the general idea that applies to our very own solar system. It might be out of order but the moon strikes as having very similar momentum patterns in that it has to speed up and slow down as it orbits in the common Earth/Moon orbit around the sun. That really seems to... -

The Origin of People -- hominin migration and evolution
This is great info about a very interesting topic and I am glad to learn anything about where we came from and how we got to where we are. There is lots of discoveries being made by people digging up the past with care and respect for who they were and why they did what was done.- jim meyer

Medical Cancer causes: circa 67% are Replication error
Rather than say this is random chance why not say "we don't why it happens". That would be more accurate would it not? And then we can look for a reason. I have an opinion on why it seems to be random and yet is not random at all. The idea I have is the four letters used to construct DNA are...- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
Well I didn't mean to say CO2 was free oxygen if that is what you mean. The CO2 molecule is mostly oxygen and photosynthesis or inorganic chemistry can free the oxygen therein. There is a lot more CO2 in the ocean than in the atmosphere. Still more than 90% of all the CO2 on our lovely planet is...- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
I wonder if anyone has considered buoyancy in these models? It seems to me water will tend to rise to the surface because the crust is much denser and will tend to sink in water. I know water fills holes in the crust but how deep down do conditions exist for holes to develop?- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
Bacteria is life-one of three kinds of life. This form of life might have done the job-or it might have been done by chemistry not involving life at all. Or maybe a little of both. The point is CO2 locked up in rocks was in the atmosphere early on and there is a lot of CO2 locked up in rocks.- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
Well OK if life force did the job. The job still had to be done before the environment was fit for life capable of doing photosynthesis or before the job of freeing oxygen can be done. Now we have a chicken/egg problem as in which comes first. Is there a life form that can live in CO2 atmospheres?- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
The two gases are linked and very important to get right. As current state of art theory says the free oxygen came from CO2-right? The rub is that there is way too much CO2 locked up in rocks to be covered by the photosynthesis theory. The Bulk of the original CO2 had to have been locked away in...- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
Well let's not nitpick-I agree photosynthesis has added O2 to the atmosphere. My point is free oxygen has always been in the atmosphere at about 10E18kg or so. The fact that much more CO2 was in the early atmosphere(CO2 now in rocks)and dwarfs the other gases. This is not known and I just want...- jim meyer

Oxygen formation in Earth water
This explanation about life force generating free oxygen ignores the fact that more than 90% of the CO2 on our planet is locked up in rocks by nonliving force. All that locked up CO2 was in the atmosphere early on in Earth's history. The rocks have the truth and it has not yet been discovered by...- jim meyer

Central and South American Volcanos
I agree with you about the balance between the volume of available info and time anyone has to spare. I don't agree with your definition of ignorance. Not the issue here however. I'll look into the Bullard Heat Flow and I want to thank you for the sea floor map as well as this reference. The...- jim meyer

Central and South American Volcanos
Well, you know according to NOAA and people like the commander of the Alvin only a tiny amount of the ocean has been explored. Bouncing electromagnetic waves off the seabed a is very good start though. The flow of energy is not being mapped by this method and is energy flows from the mantle I...- jim meyer

Central and South American Volcanos
Well what I meant by constant rate was the 100,000,000 year cycle or so of the seabed. It could be 200,000,000 I don't know. It can indeed be estimated and included in the limited information we have about the seabed. I will guess it not a barren surface and will be full of surprises when it is...- jim meyer

Central and South American Volcanos
The bore hole data does not include the magma flows that are known to exist and force seafloor spreading. As you know the seabed recycles or is renewed at a constant rate and magma flows from the mantle into the mid-ocean carries heat as well as mass not being estimated by anyone at this time...- jim meyer
