    Electromagnetics question for physicists/engineers

Perhaps some trail and error will yield some relationships. It does seem a bit of a grey area; I may have just found myself a topic for my research paper, cheers.

    Electromagnetics question for physicists/engineers

Thanks for your reply. I've already considered how coil length would increase with increased core diameter, but this only means that the flux density will remain constant at the surface of the core regardless of diameter. I have also done the derivations (several times!) and it still seems...

    Electromagnetics question for physicists/engineers

I've been looking into electromagnet design and there is a certain principle/set of equations that are bothering me... (1) B = (kμ0Ni)/L (2) ø = BA Where; - ø = total magnetic flux (wb) - B = magnetic flux density (wb/m2) I am trying to solve for an optimum cross sectional area of...

    "Lost work" and irreversibility

To get the work lost from irreversibilties, you need to calculate the Δenergy in the isentropic scenario and the Δenergy for the real process in question. The difference between these values will be the work lost.

Generator Selection for Motor Design: Efficiency and Torque Considerations

Thanks for your input so far Windadct and Siraskalot. I aim for it to turn at 500 rpm with no load. However I'm unsure how the angular velocity of the motor (generator input shaft) will vary with generator output load, can anyone help with that? I'm guessing it would be a conservation of...

Generator Selection for Motor Design: Efficiency and Torque Considerations

yeh sorry that's what I meant; a negative torque to that of the motor. I'm guessing because a permanent magnet has a constant magnetic field without the need of a current such as that of an electromagnet?

Generator Selection for Motor Design: Efficiency and Torque Considerations

^Thanks, this confirmed my suspicions. So to confirm, the greater the load from the generator output, the greater the torque drawn from the generator input shaft? The motor isn't an internal combustion engine but will serve the same function. As for AC/DC operation, haven't given it too much...

Generator Selection for Motor Design: Efficiency and Torque Considerations

Hey guys I'm working on the design of a motor and I'm hoping to convert the output shaft kinetic energy into electricity, nothing new there! The motor will generate 100Nm/rev and I aim on achieving 500rpm... P = τω P = (100)(2pi)(500/60) = 5.236 kW Can anyone advise as to the most...

Force between a permanent and electromagnet

Could anyone help me with calculating the force between an electromagnet and a permanent magnet? Using Biot-Savart law I'm able to calculate the field strength of the electromagnet at a respective point, I can also calculate the field strength of the permanent magnet. However, the tricky part...
