The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

that's too confusing for me then, i give up :O

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

i'm doing no measuring whatsoever in the above example. i PHYSICALLY arrive AT Earth for simultaneous viewing of said explosion. simultaneity is fine at a point. that's still 70,000 km/s faster than it's allowed to travel... relatively :(

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

okay, let's do a simple experiment. i'm on a rocket heading towards Earth at 200,000km/s. it just so happens that I'm 200,000 km from Earth when a satellite 300,000 km from Earth on the opposite side explodes. in the second it takes for that light from the explosion to reach earth, i travel...

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

exactly what i was getting at. all "measurements" have no comparative "sense" unless we're functioning in the same frame. what's the point of measurements in the first place if we can't accurately use them to convey information? why NOT use Earth as a standard frame? we DID start off here...

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

why should i care about measurements of distance speed and time FROM the spaceships? they're traveling at incredible speeds and therefore subjected to all manner of time dialations and length contractions. what should matter is the Earth distances and the Earth times we're using and therefore...

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

why are you using that equation when you know they're 400,000 km apart in one Earth second? seems to me the equation is just flat out wrong. and gets more wrong the more seconds go by. and i have said before i know and understand the principles of maxwell's equations. i just don't see...

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

well explain to me this then. the Earth is one reference frame. from the Earth two rockets are launched each with a capable speed of 200,000 km/s. one goes "left" and the other goes "right". in one second from Earth frame, how far apart are the rockets?

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

is that because time = 0? just curious about the reason. another thing about the way "speed" is measured to begin with. you say speeds above 300,000 km/s are impossible, but what is that in relation to? If one spaceship is going left at 200,000km/s and the other is going right at 200,000...

The Speed of Light: Relative to Us?

If we take a photon as our frame of reference is it safe to say that the universe moves relative to "Us" at the speed of light? that is, something 300,000 kms away from us in the "direction" we are "travelling" in, will we reach it in 1 second, or rather since we're stationary, will IT reach...

Exactly what is theory all about?

i don't quite understand what's the point of having a theory development section at all if people can't start threads that are speculative and innovative. thumbs down. I'll see you guys somewhere else i guess

Exactly what is theory all about?

yes, unless you have a point, what you are musing is already "instinctual" to the human mind. we're not seeing the reason you're fascinated with this topic. in other words, you're providing a lot of explanation for something that doesn't need that much explanation. not sure where that...

So we have problems with clocks measureing time ?

i think the problem you will encounter with your thought experiment is there's no way to verify clocks running slower or faster at those speeds, to the person traveling AT that speed his clock looks normal. and he can't verify it against a clock in a "slower" frame without first slowing down...

So we have problems with clocks measureing time ?

if the galaxy is moving at 371km/s through the universe and light moves at 300,000 km/s through our galaxy doesn't it stand to reason that light moves 300,371 to 299,629 through the universe? just curious about what that would be like...

What if humans were artificial life forms (heh, and aliens for sure)?

the drugs, they're good aren't they?

What if humans were artificial life forms (heh, and aliens for sure)?

what if you don't really exist? you're just a computer image created to pacify me while i generate body heat that machines use as power . . . :O
