Humans Settling on the Moon: What Do You Think?
Man does enjoy exploring, as we did with this planet, but I really don't believe that man will ever colonize other planets in the time our species has left on this one. I think it wise to embrace all the lore and religions which place the heavens above us as out of our reach and not our realm...- jtcapa

Interstellar: A Visual Masterpiece with Disappointing Writing and Physics
The sound was horrible. Way too loud, and it drowned out the dialog. This movie needed a bunch more editing, there was so many poorly created scenes with sounds effects that overshadowed the movie. My wife and I had to wear ear plugs to make it watchable.- jtcapa

Did Arthur C Clarke invent Geostationary orbit of satellites ?
That is the advantage of being a science fiction writer, you can have a brilliant idea that may indeed be a possibility, like anti gravity flight, yet you don't have to provide any facts of science or the math behind such and idea to make it real in your writing. Does that mean Vern invented...- jtcapa

Undergrad Inertial vs Gravitational Mass "mystery"?
This always struck me as wrong. In nature what is true for the very small is most often true for the large, and seeing a complete reversal of the accepted effects of gravity in the expanding universe theory just seemed improbable at best. So we do what we do best, we embellish the truth with... -
Undergrad Inertial vs Gravitational Mass "mystery"?
I think this is one of many reasons that finding a unified theory of everything is impossible. There are simply to many variables which are most likely wrong, or our assumptions of them are wrong. We have all drank from the same tainted well of knowledge of these forces and it has colored our... -
Undergrad Inertial vs Gravitational Mass "mystery"?
Very interesting to read this discussion, and step back and reflect upon the terms being used in the various definitions such as "gravity". So much of this discussion is base upon the assumption we actually know and accept what Gravity really is. The original poster might have been interested... -
Electrical Engineering and Physics problem
Thanks for those links, Interesting information, but different than what I'm looking into. Another good site for wing movements is the http://www.dickinson.caltech.edu/"- jtcapa

Electrical Engineering and Physics problem
Thanks again MLD, That website was especially informative and breaks it down in simple terms I can understand. I'm going for higher speeds without a spring, so your right the higher-torque motor is a must. By adding a tail to the pendulum with a small metal piece, I can have two pulse pots at...- jtcapa

Electrical Engineering and Physics problem
This is an example of a device which uses similar technology. Here is a rough diagram of the circuit design. I think I need a more powerful pulse device which can overcome momentum. Since this coil can only be turned on or off and the polarity is not reversed, the repulsive force on the wand...- jtcapa

Electrical Engineering and Physics problem
Thank you for your response MatLabDude. I know it will take me some time to complete this project, which is fine. I'm overdue in terms of learning more about the EE field, so this experience will be good for me. One thing that helps speed up this process is being able to ask cogent questions...- jtcapa

Electrical Engineering and Physics problem
I'm building a simple demonstration toy, that shows a bee's wing in flight. It has a very fast moving part. In its most basic description it is nothing more than a pendulum which needs to rapidly cycle back and forth in about a 60 degree arc. (up to 150 beats per second). I've tried a...- jtcapa
