What are the criteria for determining if a matrix is diagonalizable?
Homework Statement 1) Let's say I was trying to find the eigenvalues of a matrix and came up with the following characteristic polynomial: λ(λ-5)(λ+2) This would yield λ=0,5,-2 as eigenvalues. I'm kinda thrown off as to what the algebraic multiplicity of the eigenvalue 0 would be? I'm pretty...- KD-jay

How Do You Solve Basic Angular Motion Problems?
Ok, I've got it. I used the fact that the velocity vector is 90 degrees from the position vector since it's tangential. Finding the acceleration is similar, except the acceleration vector is 180 degrees (i.e. oppositely directed) from the position vector.- KD-jay

How Do You Solve Basic Angular Motion Problems?
Homework Statement A small object with mass 3.90 kg moves counterclockwise with constant speed 5.40 m/s in a circle of radius 5.00 m centered at the origin. It starts at the point with position vector (5.00i + 0 j) m. Then it undergoes an angular displacement of 8.00 rad. (a) What it its...- KD-jay

Elastic collision shuffleboard problem
Homework Statement Two shuffleboard disks of equal mass, one orange and the other yellow, are involved in an elastic, glancing collision. The yellow disk is initially at rest and is struck by the orange disk moving with a speed of 5.40 m/s. After the collision, the orange disk moves along a...- KD-jay

Solve Physics Problem: Block Moving Up a Vertical Track
Homework Statement A block of mass 0.640 kg is pushed against a horizontal spring of negligible mass until the spring is compressed a distance x. The force constant of the spring is 450 N/m. When it is released, the block travels along a frictionless, horizontal surface to point B, the bottom...- KD-jay

How much work is done by the gravitational force on the crate?
Homework Statement A crate of mass 10.6 kg is pulled up a rough incline with an initial speed of 1.51 m/s. The pulling force is 93.0 N parallel to the incline, which makes an angle of 20.1° with the horizontal. The coefficient of kinetic friction is 0.400, and the crate is pulled 5.08 m...- KD-jay
