Advice on different career choices
I noticed medical physics mentioned in other threads as well. As for the master's in physics, going off strictly from what I've read here I don't think its as useful as a PhD in the U.S. but I will certainly look into this field, thanks. So I take it then that going from a physics B.S. to a...- MainCharacter

Advice on different career choices
It was just an irrational fear that I've thought up after reading some depressing posts here. Perhaps I'm being to pessimistic about this. Can you please elaborate on what you main by tailor it? Sounds really important. It's funny though I've always been one to rely on intuition more than...- MainCharacter

Advice on different career choices
I think pessimism has better long terms benefits and optimism short term, just my astute student observation here. You are right I definitely don't plan on stopping after a B.S. and I will try to apply for a physics Phd program but my fear here is that unless you get it from a big school like...- MainCharacter

Advice on different career choices
Howdy forum, I need some advice on what to do after my physics B.S. Basically this is a what would you do in my shoes question. So these kind of topics usually start with describing one's self (I think). So i'll start there. I'm a physics major transferring into a mid-tier university (UIC)...- MainCharacter

Engineering Dual Degree in Physics and Engineering, B.S.
I've decided to try my luck with the b.s. in physics and see if I can get into grad school as a research or assistant to minimize the costs. If can't find any I'll stay an extra year and get the engineering degree and work my way around that way. Thanks for all the help folks!- MainCharacter

Engineering Dual Degree in Physics and Engineering, B.S.
A lot of the new questions can be derived now. What would you recommend then, Vanadium? My biggest concern is funding my self for the Ph.D and I was thinking the dual degree will open more and better jobs but as V says it will sacrifice my physics. So a couple questions need to be pondered now...- MainCharacter

Engineering Dual Degree in Physics and Engineering, B.S.
Howdy, I need help sorting out a plan... again. It has come to my attention, the various opinions on how hard it is for a bachelors in physics to get a job. Here's what i originally had in mind: B.S. physics -> get a job -> M.S. & Ph.D. physics. It is indeed a crude plan but to specify the...- MainCharacter

Engineering Career Guidance: Mechanical Engineer BS to Theoretical Physics
The theoretical physics thing was just a thought; I should have not even mentioned it. Anyways I thought it through and I am going to get a BS in physics and afterwards try land one of those assistantships in a grad school to fund my ph.d and after ph.d I'm not to sure. i will probably just go...- MainCharacter

Engineering Career Guidance: Mechanical Engineer BS to Theoretical Physics
Thanks for the replies everyone. I had a feeling it was a no go, it was the first thing that came to my mind. So now the question is what do I do? Do I go for engineering for the money and comfort or do I go into physics for the interest? Any sugestions from any of you who have been in this...- MainCharacter

Career guidance for a community college student

Career guidance for a community college student
No one? How about just one question. I don't want seem like I am spamming this nice forum but I'm quite anxious to get more info. I would like to know exactly how easy is it to switch into a related field or another field once you've gotten a physics Ph.D. For example, I go to the university and...- MainCharacter

Career guidance for a community college student
Howdy everyone, I'd like to start of by saying that I read that article called, "so you really want to be a physicist", it was nice information but now I have a few questions. So here's my dilemma, I did pretty mediocre in high school, maybe a little less than mediocre and now I'm attending a...- MainCharacter
