Astronomy and the Relativistic Doppler Shift
Hey Dan, I have a similar issue that I am facing right now in a homework problem. I am using the correct equation though that you listed above where, f=f_o*sqrt[(1-b)/(1+b)] where b=beta or v/c here is my question, what if the relative speed of the source is c? That would make the entire...- matthew baird

Lost the Bath Plug? Dealing with a Flooded Bathroom
use a hand towel, just shove it in there. Works very well, I had to in one of my apartments. Used the same one for a year, leaks a little but good enough.- matthew baird

Have you ever experienced lucid dreaming?
I most definitely can control whether or not to stop dreaming. Even when I know that I am dreaming. Sometimes I will wake up then try to get back asleep to see the continuation of the dream, that only works out sometimes. As far as controlling what happens in the dream, I cannot do that. I never...- matthew baird

Navigating First Year Calc-Based Physics: Challenges & Solutions
Heya Weave, I'm in that class right now and loving it. Berkeman is correct, it is very rewarding. As far as how difficult it is, that is hard to say. How well do you understand calculus? For me, the class has been more or less easy, but my major is physics so that is to be expected. Good luck if...- matthew baird

Setup Home Security System to Record Bumps in the Night

Do smarter people tend to be better looking?
I would have to say that there is no relation between physical appearance and intelligence. If anything, I would say that the opposite of what you say is more true. From my observations, people who are very attractive sometimes rely on their attractiveness and neglect their mind.- matthew baird

What is the Elastic Collision Dilemma and How Can It Be Solved?
Or, here is a handy little equation for future similar problems. This is ONLY for head on collisions with M2(mass 2) initially at rest. V1f=((m1-m2)/(m1+m2))V1i , where V1f=final velocity of mass 1,V1i=initial V2f=((2m1)/(m1+m2))V1i ,V2f=final velocity of mass 2- matthew baird
