What is the difference between internal energy and enthalpy?

Just because the volume is constant in that tiny chamber doesn't mean the pressure will stay the same. Right? Essentially, an explosion is happening in that chamber, and I am assuming that the pressure is going to increase. Is that pressure change accounted for in the enthalpy? It seems like it...

What is the difference between internal energy and enthalpy?

I am going to define these things as I understand them. Please correct/refine them as necessary. A bomb calorimeter is a small volume capsule within a tank of water. A reaction is carried out within this small capsule and the heat evolved is transferred to the water and the heat change of the...

Is it too late to go back to school and pursue a different career?

I find it funny how along with everyone's opinion they have to insert the declaration that they themselves are "good enough" to be in the organization they are frowning upon. Is a high test score required to have a valid opinion on the matter? It sounds to me like we all have our own form of...

Whale killed on the second try a century later

The whale was killed by Alaskan Indians. As far as I know it wasn't those Indians that made whales near exstinct in the first place. This happened with the bald eagle as well. The world was used and abused around them and now all of the sudden they are the criminals..? Same story for Africa...

Getting out of bed is such a pain

I have had the same problems. Having a job or mandatory appointment seems like one of the only ways to get myself out of bed. A couple of weeks ago when I was able to set my own work hours, I would stay in bed until 11-12 and it definitely made me feel like a pile of crap. I did try having my...

Is Intelligent Life Out There in the Universe?

Who says that life is limited to beings that exhibit characteristics that we have knowledge of. For all we know, the mechanism of "life" could be realized through means other than "earthlike" conceptions. I'm sure that in certain circumstances certain compounds or energy variations could fulfill...

High School Categorizing Energy: Actualized vs. Latent

I am trying to categorize energy by breaking it into two forms... Please critique this and tell me if/where I am in lack of understanding. The first form is actualized energy. Actualized energy would be energy that is in its active form; for example, light. This energy is in the act of...

Moving to Arizona & Taking a Year Off - 18 Yr Old Physics & Math Student

Whoaaa Gale your situation is eerily familiar to mine. I'm in my second year and have seriously given thought to taking some time off. My grades are pretty bad for the same reasons, and I too think that a year or even a semester off may do me some good. The things in my way are the thoughts of...

Undergrad I think popular science is ruining science

Didn't get a chance to read all seven pages, but... Please do have sympathy for those of us who cannot understand the mathematics needed to be a physicist. The only way I satisfy my curiosity is by reading about conceptual physics. I don't read mags or watch movies or read fiction on science...
