Physics Physics Careers - Only two branches?

There are things like medical physics, engineering, teaching, writing, and even police forensics...figuring out where a bullet came from or analyzing car crashes to determine vehicle speeds etc. Physics is a very broad field with a lot of applications.

Analytical Solution to a Magnetic Field

I'm currently reviewing electrodynamics for school this fall. I'll give the problem a little thought and see if I can come up with an analytic solution. My gut approach would be to solve the problem for just a disk in a magnetic field (the end of the bucket), then solve the problem for hollow...

Exploring Classical Dance & Hip Swinging Moves

I can dance, but its been a few years. I learned how to swing dance to impress a girl I liked. It worked and we dated for a few months. I don't know if I'd remember how now though.

    Electron proton interaction

You could attempt to figure out the minimum initial kinetic energy needed for the electron to overcome the repulsive force of the proton...think of it as an electric version of the escape velocity question in gravitation. Edit: I just noticed this is in the introductory physics section...so...

    Astrophysics and theoretical physics

Astrophysicists study the motions of the heavens. Theoretical physicists have a larger range of subjects than just the heavens. Theoretical physicists attempt to make sense of experimental results and try to understand what our equations and experiments are telling us about how the world...

When an Electric field does work on a charge, which equation should i use?

I'm trying to remember what the convention is...positive charge in a positive field...negative, but I'm not absolutely sure on that...that probably something you could google.

Work done by the gravitational force

Wouldn't the work done when moving between two points in a gravitational field just be the difference between the potential energies at those two points? You'd really only need to worry about the up direction...or r in spherical polar coordinates...if the coordinate origin is the Earth's center.

    Physics and Mathematics Guidance

None of my friends are really into physics either, that's why I like visiting this forum occasionally. Its not a bad place to discuss interesting things with like minded people. I do have MSN, but I'm not on there often. We could always correspond here on the forum though. There certainly...

    Physics and Mathematics Guidance

I've gone on stints where I read philosophy. Plato is my personal favorite. I've read a lot of his works. I haven't read much of Nietzsche...of the Renaissance and Enlightenment philosophers I've read some of Descartes, Pascal, Spinoza, Kant, Leibniz...a few others, but I'm more of a dabbler...

    Dp/dt = 4p-3p^2-p^3Diff. Equation.

I tried anyway. Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful...I'm just so lazy. :D

    Encouraging A Physics Student

I always loved kinematics...its all about predicting the future! Take out a cannon and you can predict when and where the ball will land. You can know how high a bouncy ball will bounce, how fast the roller coaster will go, how long it'll take to reach grandma's house and how many times the...

    Dp/dt = 4p-3p^2-p^3Diff. Equation.

Hmm, I'm not sure and its my bed time. I'll give it a little thought and get back to you tomorrow. Hopefully someone else on the forum can give you some advice in the mean time.

    Dp/dt = 4p-3p^2-p^3Diff. Equation.

Do you know what the answer is supposed to be? I've been playing around with the math a bit and I get to (1/20) ln [(p^5) / (4+p)((1-p)^4)] After that I just kind of gave up because I'm lazy. :) I guess I just assumed that simplified algebraically...is it supposed to be a nice clean answer...

    Physics and Mathematics Guidance

The dishwashing job was kind of a circumstacial thing. I got my masters in physics, was going for my PhD but wasn't interested in the research they were doing at my university...so I decided to move back to my home city and get a second masters in high school education. I got a part time job...

    Dp/dt = 4p-3p^2-p^3Diff. Equation.

You can always double check by differentiating your integration result to see if it is the same as what you started with. But yeah, remember you can pull a constant out front when integrating...if you had something like INT(1/6x) that's the same as (1/6)INT(1/x)
