    Rotational Inertias of Different Shapes

Sorry, this isn't a question from a book or something, but I wasn't sure where else to put this. Is there a convenient way of memorizing or deriving the following?: I have an exam in a week and I thought I might as well try asking before making flashcards.

Analysis of Structures Homework: Find Forces on Member AD

Thank you, I managed to figure it out. You were right, I was treating it like a truss for some reason, and kept getting weird answers. I eventually just took apart the entire frame pin by pin, member by member. It helped me understand frames better, and I managed to get the correct answer...

Analysis of Structures Homework: Find Forces on Member AD

Member BD is 1 structure, and the L-shaped AD is another structure. A and B are not directly connected. Sorry for the confusion. I don't have a scanner so I couldn't just scan the picture. EDIT: I uploaded another image. Hopefully this one clears up any confusion.

Analysis of Structures Homework: Find Forces on Member AD

Homework Statement A structure is made of 3 members, AD, AC, and BD (as shown in the attached image). A and B are NOT directly connected. There is also a pulley attached to D with radius 0.15 m. 1 end of the cable is attached to a 500 N weight, the other on is fixed in a horizontal sense. A is...

What is a Short Link in a Truss (Statics)?

My book has some questions involving "short links" connecting trusses to a support. It doesn't seem to explain what short links do. Can anyone shed some light? I attached a picture of what they look like. I really just can't find any information on what they do. Is it supposed to be very obvious?

Novie questions about the double-slit experiment

I'm not too proficient in technical terms, but by diffraction, are you referring to the interference pattern?

Is a PhD in Physics Worth the Struggle?

For the longest time, I've wanted to get a PhD in physics, because I just found everything involving it facinating. I found both the microscopic and the macroscopic worlds it describes very interesting. In light of my academic progress in maths, I don't appear to be getting it, despite my...

Novie questions about the double-slit experiment

I've been trying to get answers from Yahoo! Answers, but I haven't really been getting them. Can the double slit experiment be done with bigger objects, say grains of sand, or more? Would there be any difference in the results? I'm already aware that C60 was used, but I don't know if the results...
