Graph y=x-|x|: Is There a Solution?
The absolute value of -x would be x. But I remember with inequalities there are 2 possible answers with absolute value (-,+). From what you are explaining it sounds like that is what you are saying to do, use both possible values. Then I would graph by beginning with y at 0 and continue by...- mikebc

Graph y=x-|x|: Is There a Solution?
confused ... y=x-|x| The problem is to graph this equation y=x-|x|. From what I understand of absolute values, this x would be positive. If it is positive then y=0 and there would be no points to graph. Is there something that I am missing? The question is worth 4 points, so I can't see...- mikebc

How Do You Plot the Curve of a Hyperbola with a Non-Zero Center?
Thank you, Hallsofivy. I have followed what you explained so clearly. The thing that I don't understand is that math is such an exact science that I thought there must be a special formula for determining exact points to follow to draw the hyperbola. But from the suggestions given here it...- mikebc

How Do You Plot the Curve of a Hyperbola with a Non-Zero Center?
Sorry, in that equation the two 2's are squares and the 3 is supposed to be under the y-2 and the 6 under the x-2.- mikebc

How Do You Plot the Curve of a Hyperbola with a Non-Zero Center?
Hi, I am graphing a hyperbola and have completed everything, except I am not to sure how to draw the final curve in. I have the center, foci, vertices, and axis'. I cannot seem to find any information on actually plotting the curve in. Am I supposed to freehand it in from the vertice and follow...- mikebc

Series circuit lab problem: voltage drop?
You guys are awesome for explaining this to me. I just want to let you know that I am still processing the information, it hasn't quite clicked with me yet. From what I understand the external circuit is I=V/R = 8.70/2135 = 0.0041 amps. So the internal resistance is R=V/I = 8.92/0.0041 = 2176...- mikebc

Series circuit lab problem: voltage drop?
Hi, I am having a problem with my lab report and am hoping somebody can help me understand it better. Here is my problem: I set up a series circuit with 5 resistors of 427 ohms each. The voltage of the battery was 8.70V to start. Once the battery was removed from the circuit its...- mikebc

Blinking light circuit voltage vs. time?
Thank you for your help, although I don't think I completely understand. There is 0.114s between each flash and then the flash lasts for 0.1s. Is there a way to determine what voltage it drops to before recharging?- mikebc
