Graduate Press Conference on Major Discovery - primordial B modes?

I have a question. I was watching another presentation online (at Taiwan), and the presenter said that the existence of B-mode support the existence of gravitational wave, which therefore hint the existence of graviton. The confusing part for me is that, I thought classical GR would have...

Undergrad Can better technologies overcome the size limitations of particle accelerators?

I thought that there is no way to bypass the synchrotron radiation (at least for the circular particle accelerators)?

Graduate LHC Experiments Challenge Speed of Light: 22nd Sept News

Actually, there is one on the SR and GR sub forum...And that is also why I came back here to see. :)

Graduate CERN team claims measurement of neutrino speed >c

That is my point - if they somehow synchronize the neutrino with gamma ray from the emitter, then as I said, it would be an amazing technique because the light would be so scattered that it would be nearly none existing - and if they calculate the speed through distance/duration, then as I said...

Graduate CERN team claims measurement of neutrino speed >c

I think I would need to read the methodology - how did they know that it is faster than speed of light? Because as muppet said, 60 nanoseconds is a difference of the order of 10 meters - and that could simply be error of measuring the distance. Then I thought maybe they somehow collect light...

Graduate Contraction of the Riemann Tensor with the Weak Field Metric

Because they are the same. I would assume that $\phi$ is a scalar (from what you showed) - then partial derivative is the same as the full derivative. And what you just wrote are exactly the same - just different way of expressing it. Hope it helps

Courses Which Introductory Physics Course Sequence Should I Take?

I chose the "highly recommended" one. It turned out to be pretty nice - the class is smaller, your classmates are probably going to be your classmates for the next four years (like it or not...). And those topics indeed "spice up" the course, IMHO

How do you make a website and who likes art here

I did, but I was never good at it. In fact, you know, normally we would need to write something on the painting whenever we are done with it - and that is always the most embarrassing part for me... (I actually need to practice at the side) :P

I do chinese painting (if this is how it is called) and acrylic.

Top 10 Favorite Courses: Share Yours!

Good that you include non-science/ engineer/math course. Because I wouldn't even have 10 courses on my list ;-). I mean, come on, there are only THAT many courses. No particular order 1. SR/GR and Cosmology in undergrad level - I like the subject. Period. Probably because It's heavily...

What makes physics so fascinating and appealing?

Originally, I am similar to many of other people, love the fact that Physics explains the why and how. But the more I am into this field, the more questions I have. And at the end, I am stuck in here.

What to do as an undergrad if I want to go for theory?

I think you do understand that theoretical undergrad research posit is harder to obtain? I think that experimental particle physics might be a good place to start from, IMO. It is a related field (if not EXACTLY). And you know how things actually work out in the real world, etc, which could be...

How to ask a professor about research?

hmm, the only time I ever asked a prof for research posit via email, I did not get any response. I think email, almost by its own definition, is a bit informal, and sloppy. I got my current posit easily, just by dropping by my profs office and ask, I would like to work during the summer, do...

    Veering Away from Mechanical Thinking

Well, maybe I should ask, what else do you expect? From your posts, it seems like you are an extraordinary student. As the word implies, you are more than an average HSer, and classes in HS is, by definition, provided for average HSer. Notice that not everyone needs to know the why, or how. For...

Courses Physics/Math Course Diagram; Opinions please?

Just curious, So in theory, you can finish your major in, 2 and a half years? I am not sure how this pre-reqs work. Because in my school, while, say class A is pre-reqs of class B, one could probably take both A and B together. If this is also true in your school, then I'll suggest to take math...
