Solving 2nd Order ODEs: y^4 -3y'' -4y = 0
Hi. I am new to differential equations. This is probably pretty easy but I don't quite understand how to do it yet. The equation is y^4 -3y'' -4y = 0. I can figure out what class of equation it is. I can write it in the form y'' = F(y), but I am not really sure how to solve it.- mj478

Where Will a Projectile Land When Fired Eastwards at Latitude θ?
I got the time the projectile is in the air from basic kinematics. I am stuck trying to solve a second degree DE for u. I took the derivative of the first eqn and substituted in from the second one to get: u'' -(f^2)v' = 0. The characteristic equation doesn't have real roots. So I am having...- mj478

Where Will a Projectile Land When Fired Eastwards at Latitude θ?
I don't think we are supposed to use a computer. The equations weren't given in the problem, but the prof said in class that we would need them to solve the problem.- mj478

Where Will a Projectile Land When Fired Eastwards at Latitude θ?
Homework Statement If you fire a projectile eastwards and upwards with a speed u=(uo,0,wo) at latitude theta, where will it land? You can neglect air resistance and (in the vertical momentum equation) the effects of rotation relative to a constant g. Sketch the solution(s). Find the landing...- mj478

Derive Gibbs function for dry air .
Homework Statement 1. Derive the Gibbs function g(T,P) for dry air. T = temp, P = pressure 2. Derive the speed of sound (c) from the Gibbs function. Plot c as a function of temp and pressure. Homework Equations c = gp*squareroot(gTT/(g^2TP - gTT*gpp) I wasn't sure how to type it in...- mj478
