3D Equillibrium Statics Problem - Reaction Forces/Moments
I think the added fixed rod is causing me some issues. I tried summing the forces and moments, and got the following in the attached sketch. I think the forces are right, but I am not sure the moments are accurate...- mjgarrin

3D Equillibrium Statics Problem - Reaction Forces/Moments
I just gave made up numbers just to get an idea how to solve such a problem. I agree, the forces may not translate well to the size of the beam. Any force would work.- mjgarrin

3D Equillibrium Statics Problem - Reaction Forces/Moments
Hello, it has been quite some time since my statics class, and I am having a problem determining the reaction forces and moments in a rigid body. I have included a sketch of my problem, and I am hoping someone can help guide me to a solution. I apologize if the sketch is a bit crude.I have a...- mjgarrin

Undergrad Point of Contact Between Arc and Circle
Hello, I have an arc with an arc length = 46.88 mm and radius = 44 mm. I have an intersecting arc with an arc length = 26.69 mm and radius = 43.4 mm. A circle with radius = 24 mm fits between the two arcs. How can I determine the contact points of the circle and the two arc lines?- mjgarrin

Planetary Gear Set Torque Equation
Hello Everyone. If a planetary gear set has 4 (or more) planets, it is more robust, and is able to handle higher torque loads than a planetary gear set with only 3 (or less) planets. Is there an equation that proves this theory?- mjgarrin

What is the Moment Applied to a Hook with Given Geometry and Load?
Hello everyone, I am curious about calculating the stress that acts on a hook. I apologize I could not make a small enough image to upload, but the hook is "J" shaped. The top of the "J" is held in place to prevent movement. The geometry of the hook is similar to a bar, whose cross...- mjgarrin

Simple Calculations for Information on a Car
Maybe I can ask another question then: How would you calculate the force between the tire and the ground? I know T = r x F, so if I know the radius of the tire, how do I calculate the torque and/or force between the tires and the ground? Could I then use the torque generated by the tire and...- mjgarrin

Simple Calculations for Information on a Car
I just bought a new car, nothing incredibly special. And being a nerd, I love creating theoretical calculations based on given data. So, I've been trying to predict the effects on my car under certain scenarios. I am doing my best to figure out the effects based of equations alone, and not...- mjgarrin

Need Help Creating a Free Body Diagram of a Car on a Slope
Hello. I have attached an image of a free body diagram of a car traveling up a ramp at 30 degrees. I was wondering if anyone can help me determine the sumation of forces in the X and Y direction. I understand that the forces in the Y-direction must be equal to zero or else the car will not...- mjgarrin
