It depends on the meter. Some have an internal shunt and can be connected directly (in series of course), some require an external shunt. If yours requires the latter, it will indeed fry without it.

Thanks for the link Alex4eva.
The link I had for the homemade detector mentioned earlier is dead, but here's an image I had saved. The ferrite rode is inside a PVC pipe with end caps.

I see several knots - it's a wooden fence...

There is often a great deal of satisfaction derived from teaching.

Standards regarding what? Questions? Answers? Discussions?
Interesting. There are threads about car engines, but the ones I have seen were regarding specifications and/or design, not repairs.
Are you suggesting that no automotive topics should be allowed?
Sorry for the quiz, but I'm new...
Liquor perhaps, if recreational drugs are legalized on a comparable scale...

I think the determining factor here would be what type of surface the wall has. The more reflective it is, the greater the potential for eye damage.
I'd use as non-reflective target as possible, such as a piece of black felt (or something similar) to focus the laser on.

You're welcome.
Btw, "wonky" is not a technical term...

When the ball impacts, the heavy side doesn't "stop" when the lighter side does, so the ball pivots a bit, and this continued movement by the heavier side translates into rotation.
If the ball is dropped from a good height then surface aerodynamics will also come into play, but I doubt it's a...
I think your observations are correct.
Unbalanced balls have an extremely "wonky" bounce. The lopsided impact causes rotation which absorbs much of the energy normally used in the rebound, plus the spin gives it a partially horizontal bounce rather than all vertical (which trades some...
Didn't I read somewhere that "less is more"?
Now on that train of thought, what could possibly start with a "T"... :uhh:

By now some folks are no doubt imagining worse things than you want to complain about anyway. Since you've already brought it up though, I'd say go ahead.

Lightning often strikes repeatedly in higher locations (hills, mountains) and tall objects such as towers and trees (although a tree may not be good for many hits). Like any short circuit, it constantly seeks the nearest discharge path.
Detecting lightning activity and pinpointing a strike's...
