I My cloud chamber didn't make any tracks....

The light source I used was my father's slide projector. The light shines in from the side. Another problem was getting the right amount of water onto the black felt on the bottom of the cloud chamber. (I'm amazed I remember these problems.)

How can I measure the terrestrial tide on my place?

I want to remind all of you about the Inertial Guidance System in the fighter { I think it was the F-15). The technicians installed the GPS in the plane parked in the hanger, and left it running. The next morning the engineers arrived and looked at the data. They spent the better part of a...

I agree with Edwin1974. It's leap seconds Here is a presentation that I've looked over. I like the graphs. https://in-the-sky.org/article.php?term=leap_second

I My cloud chamber didn't make any tracks....

Maybe there aren't very many cosmic ray particles. I used a project from Scientific American about 56 years ago. Aluminum sheet and epoxy glue. Coolant was dry ice in methanol, about -40 degrees. You need a very, very bright light. A speck of Americium from an old smoke detector should...

How spacecrafts discharge static electric charge

When there is a solar flare, 50 Mev electrons can penetrate the spacecraft skin and collect as a charge on spots in the spacecraft interior. Fast discharges can occur which burn out electronics. While the Earth's magnetic field shields most of the low orbit spacecraft , at the magnetic...

B Warm air goes up....reason on a microscopic scale?

Try this: 1. What is the mean time between scattering / collisions for slightly warmer or cooler atoms? 2. How much is the difference between the height fallen (between collisions) between slightly warmer or cooler atoms? How many times a second does the cooler atom drop a little bit...

    8 Oct 2017, 3 significant Earthquakes

In the last few years, I read that earthquakes generate frequencies which allow 'remote triggering' in faults that respond to the same frequency. More properly, the same spectrum of frequencies. If the travel time for the seismic waves is appropriate, could one of these be a case of remote...

I Neutrino oscillation with very low energy neutrinos

mfb please If the three neutrino mass eigenstates have different velocities, then, as they propagate over the lightyears, won’t the mass eigenstates draw away from each other. Wouldn’t that make the neutrino mixing impossible. Obviously, I’m missing something. I only got as far as Merzbacher.

A Do black holes lose hair in finite time?

I don't suppose anyone will see this; but, in the 60s, Wheeler was working with a concept that gravity waves created matter in a manner analogous to ocean waves making droplets when crashing into a sea shore. Much more recently, I have toyed with the possibility that the hairs on a black hole...
