Rube Goldberg Machine for physics class in highschool any ideas?
Ultimately, the machine will depend upon what materials you have at your disposal. You could make a roller coaster for a marble, but if you don't have anything to make the track out of that wouldn't be feasible for you. So, what do you have? Rubber bands, matches, lighter, balloons, wire...- mushinskull

How to Structure Your Study for the FE Exam?
I dropped out of school for 5 years before going back in 1999 to finish my BSME in 2 years. I took the FE after graduating. I tried to study Thermodynamics as I thought that would be the hardest section for me as it had been over 5 years since I had the class. However, I mainly studied...- mushinskull

Re: Building a hydrodynamics water tunnel for surface water wheel testing.
I think you need a combination of the Accumulator filled from the bottom as johnbbahm mentioned to get a smooth flow down the channel/gutter, and remove the drain port such that the channel/gutter drains freely into another storage container to eliminate that turbulent backflow condition...- mushinskull

High School Ocean liner in bucket full of water
This reminds me of the question: There is a boat floating in a tub, the boat is full of stones. If you throw the stones out of the boat and they sink to the bottom of the tub, does the water level in the tub go up, down, or stay the same?- mushinskull

Undergrad Does larger Champagne bottle = more pressure inside?
My thought is that it will be about the same pressure. The pressure inside is developed from the continued fermentation of the champagne in the bottle. What difference would the fermentation be if the champagne was in one big 9L bottle or 12 smaller 750mL bottles?- mushinskull

High School How Did Archimedes Determine the Crown's Purity?
Yeah, I can see your confusion. Wikipedia's article on the word Eureka: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka states 'he reportedly proclaimed "Eureka!" when he stepped into a bath and noticed that the water level rose—he suddenly understood that the volume of water displaced must be equal to...- mushinskull

Undergrad Car Exhasut heat to electricity
or use the the energy derived from the turbine and use it to drive a compressor to increase the amount of air entering the engine, like every turbocharger out there is designed to do.- mushinskull
