Graduate Solving the Critical Radius for Relativity: Find krE!
Special Relativity states that a clock orbiting Earth will tick slower than one on the surface of Earth. General Relativity states the opposite - a clock will tick faster the further it is from a mass. Is there then a critical radius where these two effects cancel out? Ignore the rotation of...- n1caboose

MATLAB MATLAB User Input Prompt in Functions
I am working on a program that compares the monochrome intensities of two circular objects within a greyscale image. However, because I'm a beginner I don't know how to have my program locate where these objects are. This means I need to manually input the radius and position of each circle to...- n1caboose

3D Printer Resin's Chemical Makeup?
Does anyone know what compounds make up the resin used by resin type 3D printers? I need to know if it could possible react with some hexane, toluene, and other chemical solutions for sure, though I believe the resin to be fairly inert chemically. Thanks PF. -

Undergrad Why do electric arcs in a Jacob's Ladder rise upwards?
In lecture last week my professor asked us why the electric arcs formed by the Jacobs Ladder demonstration device rose up into the air. I answered that the magnetic field created by the metal rods exerted an upwards force on the moving charge in the arc. My professor told me this was getting...- n1caboose

Undergrad How Does a Copper Pipe Affect a Solenoid's Magnetic Field?
Okay, thanks. Why exactly would the magnetic field strength be diminished so dramatically? Also, is there a method to amplify the magnetic of a pulsed solenoid without increasing the input current or changing the coil's wrap density?- n1caboose

Undergrad How Does a Copper Pipe Affect a Solenoid's Magnetic Field?
I wanted to know how the magnetic field of a solenoid would be affected if a copper/iron pipe section was put into its center. In other words, what would the resulting magnetic field be if I simply wrapped a coil around a metal pipe section without removing the pipe afterward? Will there be...- n1caboose

Charging Circuit: How a Capacitor Gets 330V from 1.5V Battery
I made a coilgun out of a disposable camera circuitboard hooked up to five 330V 80uF caps found in the cameras. It fires a nail at a very low speed (not enough to penetrate a paper towel), but I was not going for anything crazy since this was really the first electrical project I've ever...- n1caboose

Charging Circuit: How a Capacitor Gets 330V from 1.5V Battery
Hello, would anybody please tell me how a charging circuit works, such as one for a capacitor in a disposable camera...how can the 1.5V battery fully charge a 330V capacitor? I believe transformers are involved to kick up the voltage, but how is DC converted to AC for that? I'd also like to know...- n1caboose
