    Transferring from Comm to Physics

Your goal is going to be incredibly difficult to reach. U of T does not acknowledge other schools academically, unless they are top tier as well. So unless you are at another good university like Mcgill or UBC transferring, is going to be hard. If you have bad marks it might be...

What are some common misconceptions about engineering science at U of T?

This is wrong. Really wrong. Eng Sci is THE MOST USEFUL. There is tons of information on this but I will repeat it. Eng Sci take all the hard courses from other disciplines. Their undergrad degree is the most prestigious in U of T, which makes it one of the most prestigious undergrad degrees...

Programs Should I Pursue a Math Degree or Join the Military?

This is a misconception. The army pays very poorly. For the amount of hours you work, your salary is very low. The army likes to insent people to join by giving them a signing bonus and a nice starting salary. If you want to join the army for money, your making a bad choice.

Catch 22: Possibly mediocre research LOR/good TA LOR

You seem to be in a really tough spot. It is good to keep in mind that Profs are people too. They are capable of being petty and vengeful, and have alternative motives for their actions. Although I do not have experience in applying for grad school I have had a bad experience when applying...

Schools Should You Choose Waterloo or McGill for Math and Physics?

All the programs are well structured at schools like Mcgill or Waterloo. Especially an area like Math/Physics. They might not show it on the internet but they have a course calendar that are given to enrolled students each year.

What is Engineering Physics? ABET Accredited Degree in New England

You should ask the university specifically for that question. But I would bet a million to one odds that it is an accredited engineering degree. Another option that might be available at the university is a "general year". Most universities have a separate first year "general" engineering...

Admissions Applying to Waterloo; Mechatronics or Mechanical?

Since your marks are very close to the acceptance and it could go either way, I would do a risk/benefit analysis. 1st Mechatronics, 2nd Mechanical Best outcome Accepted - You have all the options to stay or drop down if you don't like it. Worst - You don't get into mechatronics and, bumped down...

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

I was really hoping you could answer my question, being an experienced professor. I will try and make it more clear this time. I am curious about the level of ability that can be attained, which is different than the ability to get into top schools. The math graduate student I talked to was...

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

Thanks for the advice, my grades are quite good so far and I don't plan on letting them drop. I am curious though on how much top grades factor into getting accepted. Like how much your chances fluctuate on getting into a good grad school if you have a 3.5GPA vs a 3.9 GPA? Some disciplines...

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

Hey, I have been a long time lurker on these forums and finally got enough courage to ask a burning question that has been in the back of my mind a long time. How much of being a good mathematician comes from being taught and learning at a young age as compared to talent and hard work? I...
