Troubleshooting Tachometer Circuit for 80's Honda Accord | Expert Help Available

This is a tachometer circuit from an early 80's Honda accord. I twisted the yellow and blue leads together and was able to get the tach to work (retrofitted into another older Honda that only came with a mechanical tach option). The twisted pair was ran off of the negative of the coil...

True Altruism: Is There a Species That Demonstrates It?

True altruism is a net negative of energy consumption of the giver to benefit a receiver that has no ways of increasing the fitness of the givers life or genetic future. I am wondering if true altruism is even possible at a species level. We have heard stories of individuals in a species that...

    Engine efficiency in an ICE

So the current estimate is that an ICE engine is about 20%. If we were able to increase the efficiency of a given engine, would that result in a proportional decrease in exhaust temperatures? (Given that driveline loss to friction is constant)

True Altruism: Is There a Species That Demonstrates It?

True Altruism is a waste strategy for life. I know there are numerous examples of individual cases of altruistic behavior but I don't know if there are documented species that show true altruism. If there are any, can you please post them here as well as the studies behind the conclusions...

Tropical latitudes have remained relatively undisturbed

Speciation usally is referenced with selective pressures...so it would seem the term undisturbance in a literal sense is inaccurate. "Undisturbance" may be dialect in evolutionary biology I have not heard of though.

Study Might Link Genes to Achievement in Education

Obviously there is a genetic component to at least a certain degree of intelligence...defining levels of intelligence to the inclusion or exclusion of genes seems nearly impossible to conclusively isolate. So to answer your question I would say they have found a correlation.

Dieting, Nutrition and the Scientific Method

This is simply a topic for discussion. Yes I know that there is firm scientific method being utilized in a lot of portions of dieting and nutrition. What I was asking (and perhaps I should have clarified)is if the scientific method can really be used in long term effects of overall health...

Dieting, Nutrition and the Scientific Method

Thanks everyone! I understand we can accurately test the bio-chemical processes of food and the reactions that take place in the body. What seems to be less clear are the long term effects of certain diets. Since humans are extremely varied and we have a vast "ability" to survive on a wide...

Dieting, Nutrition and the Scientific Method

The Better Half is always researching the latest diet trends, theories, observations, etc... I check out the articles every now and then and it seems like the overlaying problem with all these studies is the removal of variables in a study. Is it possible to accurately measure/test nutrition...

Is there a limit to evolution?

Short answer; if it was done it can mathematically be undone. More substantial answer: Do not think of a chicken being subject to enough selectional pressures...instead think that a chicken and it's descendants and their descendants, etc... would randomly produce variations that not only...
