rajini,
I've googled the inverse square law prior to asking these questions, and if i fully understood it i would not be asking the question.
as i understand it so far the radiation strength at D1 is squared. ie 400mGy/hr @ 2m = 1600mGy/hr
Then the distance at D2 is squared ie 6m = 36
The...
Thanks again Tiny-Tim/Rajani
Firstly Rajani, no I'm lost i cannot write the inverse square law formula.
Secondly, Tiny-Tim again I'm lost in the meaning of (6/2)2
if you could put it more simply maybe i could grasp it and go from there.
Thanks again
Thanks Tiny-Tim,
i think I'm getting closer
400mGy/hr at 2 meters should still be 400mGy/hr at 6m?
then 400mGy/hr divided by the square of the distance ie 6m
is that how it works?
[b]1. How many mSv/h of x-radiation is equivalent to a dose rate of 20mR/h?
[b]2. The relationship between the sievert and the Rem is i believe isievert = 100 Rem
[b]3. answer i think 2000mSv/h
Hi,
Thanks for the reply
Yes i want to know the radiation level at 6m
The only thing i know is the level is 400mGy/hr at 2m from a point radiation source.
I do not know how to calculatate the rest.
I thought 400mGy/hr at 2m might be a quarter of the original strength??
Hey, i have a similar problem and the best I've come up with so far is the inverse square law, ie at 1m dose rate constant, at 2m the dose rate is the square of the distance thus at 3m equals 9m2 etc then the HVL of the shielding material is calculated by thickness required to absorb half of the...
[b]1. If the radiationlevel is 400mGy/hr at 2m from a point radiation source, what will be the radiation level at 6m
[b]2. I figured that if the radiation was 400mGy/hr at 2m it have been 1600mGy/hr when emmitted from the sorce.
[b]3. If the inverse square law works like at 2m...
Thanks for the reply
OK so the radiation level at 6m is still 400mGy/hr but covering an area of 36m2
as per 400mGy/hr at 2m covering an area of 4m2
How come the x-radiation shielding HVL system has to be calculated?
Why not just shield for the given dose rate regardless of distance, if...

Q. If the radiation level is 400mGy/hr at 2m from a point source, what will be the radiation level be at 6m?
Are you saying the radiation level will decrease by a factor of three?
If at the piont of radiation the level is 1600mGy/hr, then at 2m it should represent a factor of four...
Using the inverse square law could anyone tell me what the outcome of this problem is?
If the radiation level is 400mGy/hr at 2m from the point radiation source, what will be the radiation level at 6m?
I figured it would be 1600mGy/hr at the point, and therefore 44.4mGy/hr at 6m
being...
