Graduate Understanding Entropy and the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics - comments
I have always thought that a reversible process would give the minimum change in entropy, i.e. a lower bound for the integral. Is it not that the higher the entropy change the more energy it's dissipating from irreversibilities? In other words, why exactly is the integrand always less than or...- nothingkwt

Undergrad Trying to figure out the probability of something.
These numbers are actually not made up but are from a statistic here where I live, there's actually a lot more information on the website. The statistic only gave the number of marriages and divorces and I calculated those percentages. I think I understand what you mean by the model and I'll...- nothingkwt

No those percentages are generic and not tied to any duration. I don't understand what year per year means?- nothingkwt

Yeah, that makes sense. But what about the other question?- nothingkwt

Undergrad Trying to figure out the probability of something.
Say I get married, the odds of me getting a divorce in a year or less are 11.5% and the chances for divorce for marriages between 1-5 years is 15.7%. My first question is, would adding them up be a good approximation for the odds of divorce in 5 years? Bearing in mind that the total number of...- nothingkwt

What Is the Acceleration of Block A and the Tension in the Cord?
∑F = ma ma*g*sin(60) - 2T - μk * N = Maaa (for block A and about the plane's axis) Where T = mbg + mbab (from block B) then I took the datum at the pulley that is on the ramp and got length = 2 Sa + Sb deriving with respect to time twice I get . . . 0 = 2aa + ab...- nothingkwt

What Is the Acceleration of Block A and the Tension in the Cord?
I was trying to get the tension on the cord for before the block started moving I didn't incorporate block B yet I thought I could get the tension in the cord from block A .- nothingkwt

What Is the Acceleration of Block A and the Tension in the Cord?
Homework Statement Block A has a weight of 400N and block B has a weight of 100N. The coefficient of friction between all surfaces of contact are μs = 0.7 and μk = 0.2. Knowing that θ = 60°, determine the acceleration of block A and the tension in the cord. Assume block A is moving downwards...- nothingkwt

Question on energy and exergy analysis.
Homework Statement A frictionless piston cylinder device contains a saturated liquid-vapor mixture at 100 °C. During a constant pressure process 600 kJ of heat is transferred to the surroundings which is at 25°C. As a result, part of the water vapor contained in the cylinder condenses...- nothingkwt

Is this series convergent or divergent.
Homework Statement Ʃ ne(-n2) Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution I used the ratio test and wanted to know if the way I did it is correct or not |a(n+1) / a(n)| n+1 (e(-n2 -2n-1)) / n e(-n2) Now e-n^2 cancels and we get limn→∞ n+1/n * 1/(e2n)(e) After you take the limits you get...- nothingkwt

General Solution of 2y'+y-(2y')*ln(y')=0
So after integrating r - 2 dr/dx * ln(r) = 0 I get x - 2ln(ln(r)) = 0 x - 2ln(ln(y')) = 0 x = ln(ln(y')^2) e^x = (ln(y'))^2 I got stuck here not sure how to separate the y. Sorry about replying so late every time it's cause of the time zone.- nothingkwt
