Graduate QM: measurement vs interaction
I'm just wondering... Regarding the single & double slit experiments... Why does every interpretation say that the photographic screen is 'measuring' the position of the particle traveling towards it? Why not say that the photographic screen interacts with an electron that is spread out...- oddthingy

Confused about Quantum Mechanics and Causality
Hi all, The following is probably a very stupid question, but could anybody please tell me what they think? It has been bugging me for quite a while. I'm a bit confused about the probabilistic interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. I can't see how it necessarily follows from the experiments...- oddthingy

Resolving Discrepancies in Photon Gas Thermodynamics
dG = 0 = V dp - SdT gives \frac{S}{V} = \left( \frac{\partial p}{\partial T}\right)_G , not \frac{S}{V} = \left( \frac{\partial p}{\partial T}\right)_s .- oddthingy

Graduate Neutron-Only Nuclei: Stability & Forces
Since both neutrons and protons feel the attractive strong interaction, and only protons feel the repulsive coulomb interaction, shouldn't 'nuclei' made of neutrons and no protons, be more stable than nuclei with roughly equal numbers of protons and neutrons? Or am I missing something here...- oddthingy

Graduate Quantum superpositions of mixed states.
Suppose you have a system which consists of a number of non-interacting particles in some potential trap. These particles are essentially identical; but each is in a different energy level (in a different energy eigenstate). Such a system is a completely mixed system (also called a 'mixed...- oddthingy
