Undergrad Help me understand indeterminism in standard quantum mechanics
Thank you! Now, I was reading about the PBR theorem. As I understand it, it states that the wave function must be a real physical thing. Is this an implicit support of deterministic interpretations? Specially since I’ve read that collapse models are increasingly constrained.- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Help me understand indeterminism in standard quantum mechanics
Apologies, I understand now, I think. What do you think is the most important part of how an interpretation is built?- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Help me understand indeterminism in standard quantum mechanics
Oh, I see, that’s super helpful. I thought that Copenhagen did posit that the ontology was probabilistic. What type of experiment could discriminate between interpretations?- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Help me understand indeterminism in standard quantum mechanics
Than you! If we assume the standard Copenhagen-like interpretations, does this mean that the evolution of the universe is fundamentally probabilistic? I know we can’t perfectly rewind or replicate all variables in an experiment, but I just find fascinating the idea that a fundamentally...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Help me understand indeterminism in standard quantum mechanics
Hello guys. Im having some trouble understanding the role of randomness in quantum mechanics, and what does that mean for the notion of an “open future”. For example, let’s say I take a quantum event, like some atom decaying. Does indeterminism mean that, besides predictability, if it were...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you! Now, these past weeks I’ve tried to take some time off work to read a bit, but in afraid that I’m far from being able to grasp some of the concepts shared here. I was wondering: Do QFT theories shift the balance towards a fully deterministic reading of nature vs a probabilistic one...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you so much for the explanation! Guys, I recently read that objective collapse theories have been increasingly constrained. Does this mean that, indirectly, determinism has gained more plausibility over probabilistic interpretations?- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Hello guys. OP again. I appreciate the discussion and thorough explanations for a layman. I have one more question about the measurement problem: If randomness arises at measurement, and we can’t pinpoint how the collapse occurs, why is it that most physicists (according to polls I’ve seen...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you for the replies in this thread! I'll check the various sources you've recommended, although it will probably take me a while haha I also wanted to clarify that I'm aware that the laws of physics are not emergent in the same sense as social structures and dynamics are. When I mentioned...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you for the recommendation, I'll look into it! Also, I checked Dr. Fatima- it was a great finding. I really like her videos on science, colonization and other social issues.- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you! I'll read this later tonight- I want to pay attention to it. Since I haven't read it yet, I can't say for sure what you mean, but I don't think that most sociologists consider reality a social construct in a strict sense. I think the more valid criticisms to the relationship between...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Oh, that makes sense. Are there any probabilistic no-collapse interpretations? I also have another question about the implications of determinism in quantum: if we interpret quantum physics as inherently deterministic, would that entail that probabilities are only epistemic and that the universe...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Thank you all for engaging with this discussion. I find it very refreshing to see the different approaches to interpretations. It’s taken me a while to read and understand the discussion the best that I can. As a sociologist, I think that it is very interesting to see the shifts and trends in...- ojitojuntos

Undergrad Question about discussions around quantum interpretations
Hey, thanks for engaging with the thread! I’m not a physicist, but I’m really enjoying reading the discussion. I just wanted to make a quick comment: I think I understand tour point about how calculations have no causal power, but if calculations and models seem to match the experimental...- ojitojuntos

Graduate Help me understand why “Block Universe” is not scientifically proven
Finally, I wanted to ask, is anyone here familiar with Emily Adlam's All-At-Once interpretation? How is it significantly different from a Block Universe view?- ojitojuntos
