Schools Graduate School Personal Statement
Hello everyone, I am trying to write a personal statement for graduate school, and I am not sure what to say. I started off by saying that I would like to eventually become a professor in order to give students research opportunities that I wasn't given as an undergraduate student (because I...- oliviam212

Undergrad Understanding and Creating an O-C Diagram
So maybe I do not know what I am doing. My graph's are not turning out the way they should. What I did was find a calculated HJD by using the period of my graph, the cycle number that I found, and the HJDnaught. I did in fact get mostly different HJD calculated than HJD observed, but they do not...- oliviam212

Undergrad Understanding and Creating an O-C Diagram
Hello, I am doing research and I was told that I need to create an O-C diagram for an eclipsing binary. Unfortunately, I haven't been given too much instruction on how to do this. Right now, all I have are minimum times of light, the period of the system, and cycle numbers. I know that O-C is...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I am probably more sensitive to the subject of religion than others, so maybe everyone else just went with it? The professor must have found out from the REU coordinator that I decided not to go. The professor said that filling out the application makes the administrative process easier for...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
Hello everyone. I have an update on the REU. A professor who runs the program called me and told me that I do not have to fill out the application or be interviewed by a religious leader. He/she was very kind and said that because it is federally funded, the school does have to accommodate...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I got a response and I am told I will be reimbursed for the application. He/she said that it makes paying the stipend easier if we fill out the application. This makes sense to me. I am still very upset, though, about not being told about having to be vouched for and then... I left this part out...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I do not think that you know what I am talking about. I never mentioned an honor code. I would always respect a school's honor code, and the honor code at this school is very blatant. I am upset that I was never told about having to pay 35$ for an application, and having to be interviewed to...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I forgot to mention the part in the application that basically says, "If you were once affiliated with this church, but are not anymore, you will probably not be accepted unless you become affiliated again." Nobody should have to say anything about their religion in regards to a federal funded...- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I am first going to email the school's REU coordinator. I have asked him/her many questions about the application, but walked around the idea that I was uncomfortable with it. I will definitely let everyone know what happens.- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
I have talked to my adviser, and he thinks it seems fishy as well. The National Science Foundation has an email that I could and might send a message to, also.- oliviam212

Problems w/ REU: Unfair Application Process?
Hello, I applied to REUs for the summer, and was happy when I got accepted to one. Now I feel like the school has ambushed me and lied to me. When I applied, I was told that if accepted, I might have to send in my transcripts, which seems true for any college. Now I am being told that I have...- oliviam212

REU Personal Statement Letter Help
I rewrote it, but my above questions still stand: My name is Olivia and I am a third year physics student at **University. I have taken eight physics courses, and have four left before graduation. After graduation, I hope to advance into a doctoral program and study astronomy. I am specifically...- oliviam212

REU Personal Statement Letter Help
I have a few questions: Classes I like: my favorite class has been E+M because this semester I finally learned to be more concerned with learning than getting an A. I do not think it would be okay to say this in a personal statement... is there any other way I could say that? Also, E+M is not...- oliviam212
