Chemistry Molecular orbital theory book reccomenations
Sorry I don't know of any websites to recommend, but you might take a look at Szabo - Modern Quantum Chemistry: Introduction to Advanced Electronic Structure Theory. It is a Dover publication, so should be very affordable.- penta-d

Prob/Stats Best Introductory Probability Books?
I haven't had the chance to read this one yet, but it looks interesting and is getting good reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1466575573/?tag=pfamazon01-20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/0471257087/?tag=pfamazon01-20 is a more traditional, intuitive, introductory text, but it is very expensive to...- penta-d

Relearning Probability: Find the Best Textbook to Pass Exam
Probability was hard for me too. We used a book by Hogg and Tanis, which was similar in many ways to Ross, and for me it was horrible. I can't say whether or not the following options will address everything on your exam, but they might be worth checking out just to see if they help you to get a...- penta-d

Biological Engineering on a large scale
They do sound very impressive! And I agree that understanding how genes exert their effects is going to take quite some time.- penta-d

Biological Engineering on a large scale
I am not sure I understand the question. We are able to alter organisms for energy and food production, and it is done on a large scale all the time. If you are asking why biotechnology has not led to an end to hunger or to independence from fossil and other fuel sources, that is a complex...- penta-d

Flowering Plant Revived After 30,000 Years in Permafrost
Evo, I don't know exactly what they did, but on the NPR thing I heard they said the first thing they tried was just to plant the seeds in soil. That didn't work, so they extracted some of the seed innards - the embryo I guess - and put it in a growth medium - hydroponic I think. Apparently...- penta-d

Best High School books for Physics and Mathematics?
I've heard good things about Principles of Mathematics by Allendoerfer and Oakley (out of print but may be available used or from the library) and Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics. I really like Morris Kline's Calculus: An Intuitive and Physical Approach. It's a Dover book, so available at a...- penta-d

Reproduction and Human evolution
"How did this Individual with 23 pairs reproduce given that everyone else in the population had 24?" The following is from http://www.thetech.org/genetics/ask.php?id=229: "As long as the information is all there, it mostly doesn't matter how it is packaged. The information that the ape has...- penta-d

Top Real Analysis Books for Undergraduates: Expert Recommendations
I like the following books: Brannan - A First Course in Mathematical Analysis Estep - Practical Analysis in One Variable Unfortunately I have no experience with the Dover titles in analysis, so I can't offer any help on those. The books above are more expensive than most Dover...- penta-d

Programs Double Major in Physics and What?
I agree that engineering is good for employent at the bachelors level, so are biochemistry, molecular biology and similar majors. If I were hiring, resumes with degree combinations like physics/English, physics/communications, physics/business would catch my attention and generate more interest...- penta-d

Good science or math books to read
Hmmm, as much as I respect Papa Rudin, I'd recommend the Princeton Companion to Mathematics, or Mathematics from the Birth of Numbers for more casual reading. Any of the volumes of Dover's The World of Mathematics are also very good. Slightly thinner books I'd suggest are Gleick's Genius book...- penta-d

A book of general chemistry problems?
You might check out Schaum's outline of general chemistry, or 3,000 solved problems in chemistry, also from Schaum's, or REA's Chemistry Problem Solver. I have not used any of them myself, so I can't vouch for complete accuracy, but I've heard good things about them and they are all relatively...- penta-d
