Solving for Temperature in a Heat Dissipation Box

You need to consider the thermal resistances of each part. In electronics you can have a chain of resistors in series with a voltage difference between the ends of a chain, and current will flow through the chain. At each resistor junction there will be a proportion of the voltage depending on...

Astronaut rotates in space without external torque

Thanks, interesting post (although mathematically a bit beyond me!) Take the falling cat scenario. Imagine if a box of negligable mass were to surround the cat in a way that it orientates itself to the cat, e.g. lots of elastic strings connecting the cat to the walls of the box which try to...

Astronaut rotates in space without external torque

Imagine an astronaut in free space. He (or she) has zero angular or linear momentum with respect to a fixed intertial frame of an outside observer. The astronaut is intially standing up (sic) with his arms by his sides and his legs together, with zero degree offset between the top half of his...

Is Context Important in Understanding Stored Charge on a Capacitor?

OK, so you would infer context from content and make assumptions accordingly. The capacitor BTW could actually have net electrostatic stored charge equal in magnitude and sign on each plate prior to charging, but I think Q=CV wouldn't hold for that.

Is Context Important in Understanding Stored Charge on a Capacitor?

I agree, no net stored charge. However, you said "When we say that a capacitor stores a certain charge", and give that charge as a value in Coulombs, you are contradicting your first statement. So, presumably someone who says this, from a physicist's point of view, is making a false statement (?)

Is Context Important in Understanding Stored Charge on a Capacitor?

Hi All, I've been having a debate regarding stored charge on a capacitor. In have been told that "a 15 pF capacitor charged to 4 volts stores 60 picocoulombs." I'd like to clarify whether physicists, rather than electrical engineers, would consider that to be a false statement. To my...
