Need Some Advice on My Job Perspective
The advice you’ve received here is good and will help set expectations with your team (and perhaps some help / support). There is a chance though that they will just come back with “we hired you to figure this stuff out” In that case, I have two questions for you though. 1. How many hours...- PhysicsRelearner

Other Physics PhD after working for few years
It’s not uncommon to get a job offer right after completing a corporate, consulting, or banking internship between junior and senior year. This allows the student to have a lower stress senior year and the firm has locked in their starting class without worry about them being poached by another...- PhysicsRelearner

Should I double up on math courses next school year?
One thing to think about is really nailing down the fundamentals and understanding the "why" while you also accelerate. If you really want to advance in math, at some point you need to move past the "I know the algorithm / procedure to solve this problem" to the "why is this true? How do I...- PhysicsRelearner

Studying "Useful" vs. "Useless" Stuff in School
The reality is that college IS a trade school for almost everybody in the US. Whether we like it or not. A lot of this was driven by a supreme court decision in 1971 (Griggs vs. Duke Power Company). Duke, like a lot of companies, only required a high school diploma and a certain score on...- PhysicsRelearner

Job Skills Possibilities of a Career in Physics/Engineering
The OP may want to consider enlisting in the military. With a degree in physics and assuming a high ASVAB test score, there are plenty of technical / engineering / physics roles that can be pursued. From Nukes in the Navy, to meteorology in the Air Force, space systems in the space force etc...- PhysicsRelearner

Physics Can Computational Physicists Find Good Jobs In Industry?
I don’t know how they survey or calculate but the NY Fed released research recently on unemployment rates by degree. From this, recent physics grads have a bit under 2x the unemployment rate of the average graduate. This is a problem. One hypothesis I have is the way recruiting is done now...- PhysicsRelearner

Other Is Pursuing a Career in Physics the Right Choice for Me?
I spent almost 10 years at one of Mckinsey BCG Bain (MBB) and was very active in recruiting both undergrad and PHD students (this is in the US context). I absolutely agree that physics student can make excellent consultants and is probably one of the highest paying options they can get...- PhysicsRelearner

Classical A relearning experience - self study edition
Hello, I've been reading this forum for about a year and a half but this original post got me to actually register to comment... I apologize in advance for the long post! I'm very much in the OP's situation - only about 1.5 years ahead. For context: I graduated ~20 years ago with physics and...- PhysicsRelearner
