Graduate A question about Matrix Mechanics
Please give me references to the papers you refer to.I want to know how Heisenberg assembled the arrays of numbers which Born realized were non-commuting matrices.I raised this question last week in a post, but none of the replies came close to answering it.From your post, you have clearly got a...- Pollock

Graduate Heisenberg's Matrix Mechanics: An Understanding Review
I would like to know more about how Heisenberg developed his matrix mechanics. He wanted to represent the quantum state in terms of observable quantities such as spectral frequencies and intensities, rather than via the more abstract wave function of Schrödinger. But how did he assemble the arrays...- Pollock

Graduate How Do Physicists Know That Quantum Superposition Does Exist?
Surely the principle of superposition is all in the mind. When a particle or system can have several equally probable values we don't KNOW which until we measure it.But that doesn't mean that it didn't have a definite value before the measurement;the electron must always have a spin either+/_...- Pollock

Graduate Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics (is there a general consensus?)
The original question was Interpretation of QM;is there a general consensus? Why doesn't someone answer that question ?. Does anyone still take the Copenhagen view as the best available?.What other interpretations are currently favoured?.- Pollock

Graduate Colapse of the Wave Funcion and the Schroedinger Equation
I don't agree. You are confusing "existence" with "observation".If you think the moon doesn't exist when you are not looking at it then you must be a confirmed solipsist.Electrons and all other particles existed before there were humans to worry about them. The positron just didn't come into...- Pollock

Graduate Bohmian Mechanics and the two slit experiment
Thank you for your helpful reply.I have now got Mike Towler's lecture notes and although they look formidably mathematical,I will try and work my way through them.- Pollock

Graduate Bohmian Mechanics and the two slit experiment
You just say that the quantum potential is non-classical,something new.Well I know that, but your answer doesn't tell me what the nature and origin of the force is.Is it multidirectional, does it vary with distance, does it exist irrespective of whether or not the particle is at rest or in motion...- Pollock

Graduate Bohmian Mechanics and the two slit experiment
I am trying to understand the essentials of the Bohmian interpretation of quantum mechanics (BI),and my (many) difficulties start with his description of the two slit experiment. As I understand it,Bohm asserts that every quantum particle has associated with it a quantum potential or guiding...- Pollock

Graduate Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum Theory
I don't accept that the MWI is a necessarily favoured alternative to the Copenhagen interpretation, and I would like to hear how others view Cramer's Transactional interpretation and also the Bohm alternative.- Pollock

Does Reality Exist Without Observation?
Perhaps a little anthropocentrism is allowable here as,after all,we are the beings doing the observing.Yes,maybe reality doesn't exist, although I think the evidence is overwhelmingly that it does.Do some believe that the moon doesn't exist when we do not observe it ?.Such a viewpoint leade only...- Pollock
