I now suspect the professor misspoke and was unwilling to admit he made an error. He has also claimed that in Huckel's rule, n = the number of pi electrons, so I take all of his scoldings with several grams of NaCl. :olduhh:
My professor drew the following molecule on the board and asked us how many pi electrons this aromatic molecule has.
Everyone in the class said 14, as there are 7 double bonds, with two pi electrons from each bond.
He told us that there are only 10 pi electrons in this molecule, refused...
AMNH REU is interviewing finalists (113 students - they didn't say how many applied), but only halfway through the list as of Friday.
Still haven't heard back from NRAO or Harvard SAO. :frown: Anyone have updates on those programs?
As someone who works full time and takes a full load of courses (and has been doing this for 2 years now) - if I had the choice to work the same number of total hours I'm putting in between work and school or double my course load, I would choose school in a heartbeat. Not that school is easier...
Waiting on UMich Physics REU, as well as some Astro REUs. Pretty sure I made the first round of cuts for my number one Astro choice, which makes my heart feel like it's going to explode. Notifications for Astro start March 1, then March 15 for UMich. :nb)
