Graduate System of second order linear homogenous differential coupled equations
thank you for your answer, so is this correct?: f_j=G_je^{i\sqrt{c_j}z}+H_je^{-i\sqrt{c_j}z} where G_j and H_j are integrating constants.. cj are eigenvalues of C and are complex.. if so, one question remains... how are the indexes assigned to eigenvalues? i mean which eigenvalue will be...- qetuol

Graduate System of second order linear homogenous differential coupled equations
oh my bad. yes, i am using Einsteins's summarizing convention. By the way this is a physics related problem, i am analyzing waves propagating a periodic media with RCWA method.- qetuol

Graduate System of second order linear homogenous differential coupled equations
my question is: what is the general solution of this system of coupled diff. equations: f ''i = Cijfj C is a matrix, fj(z) are functions dependent of z.- qetuol

Undergrad Gyroscope - I just don't get it.
My question is: which forces are present in the case of precessing gyroscope? I have drawn a simple picture of the situation. The red force is the gravitational force. Is there a centripetal force -green? I think there must be since the mass is rotating. With the green force is easy to get... -

Graduate Can an accelerating rod's length decrease faster than the speed of light?
of course when i say "shortens" i mean "i measure it shortened", its obvious. i think you have misunderstood me. i do NOT accelerate. my system is inertial. the rod is accelerating. if you need i can put my calculation in. or can you show yours?- qetuol

Graduate Can an accelerating rod's length decrease faster than the speed of light?
hi all! So let's consider this situation: I am in inertial system and i have a standing rod with length Lo . Then there is a constant force F accelerating this rod. Will the rod's length shorten? Can i use the equation of length-contraction in case velocity is not constant (of course the...- qetuol
