Undergrad How does the solar wind affect power grids?
I'm reading about solar wind and the effects it has on Earth. The charged particles from the solar wind have the potential to affect power grids which can cause outages. I know that it is related to electromagnetism, but how exactly does this happen?- rachelph

Minkowski spacetime - Overall Distance
Okay, so, from my lecture notes I know that Aμ is a column vector with components (t; x; y; z), where t is the temporal component. And also ds2 = -dt2 + dx2 + dy2 +dz2 ← Am I wrong to think is this the answer?- rachelph

Minkowski spacetime - Overall Distance
Hi guys, I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing this problem. The question has no additional information, so I'm stuck. Any help I could get would be appreciated. 1. Homework Statement In four dimensional Minkowski spacetime an event, A, has components labelled Aμ and another event B has...- rachelph

Quantum Mechanics - Question about the Finite Square Well
Alright, I think I have finally figured out the question. So, before, I had V = 0 for x < -L/2, V = 0 for x > L/2, and V = -Vo for -L/2 < x < L/2. If the potential is modified such that x < 0 is V = ∞. I'd still have V = -Vo for 0 < x < L/2. and V = 0 for x > L/2 This means that the...- rachelph

Quantum Mechanics - Question about the Finite Square Well
Hi, I'm preparing for an exam, and I'm going over past papers. I've solved parts a & b of this question without any problems, however I'm finding it hard to understand part c. I thought of shifting the boundary conditions so I'd have 0 and L in the place of ± L/2, but that would not work...- rachelph
