What's the Best Simpson's Quote of All Time?
There's a restaurant I drive by on occasion called Grille 26 and I always think of that Simpsons quote when I see their logo.- Reptillian

Mind control may not be as unrealistic as people think
There are some modern researchers working on mind control using magnetic fields. Experiments show that strong magnetic fields can be used to cause hallucinations or to influence decisions. I think I first saw this on an episode of NOVA a year or so ago.- Reptillian

Quantum Physics without taking Modern Physics
I took physical chemistry too :) the subject definitely benefits from a knowledge of modern physics.- Reptillian

Undergrad Is There a max temperature? My question about it.
There has been some work done on relativistic gases in statistical physics, but my knowledge of the subject is rusty. I'll read up on it and see if I can get back to you. :)- Reptillian

Graduate Is a GUT Impossible Due to Godel's Incompleteness Theorem?
I think Bohr offers the greatest hope of a way of circumventing the Incompleteness Theorems...his principle of complimentarity suggests that we embrace contradiction as long as we know when to apply it.- Reptillian

Quantum Physics without taking Modern Physics
Yeah, I'd recommend modern physics before quantum. I love Griffith's textbooks! :) I think his Intro to Electromagentism and Intro to Quantum Mechanics were the most readable physics texts I had in college. Like you, I took modern at the same time that I was taking a more complicated...- Reptillian

Prove Square Root of 15 is Irrational
I think what you're saying is analogous to the argument I suggested. In fancy mathematical jargon, there's an isomorphism between our arguments.- Reptillian

Prove Square Root of 15 is Irrational
If I understand the argument correctly, it's saying...the square root of any prime number is necessarily irrational by definition of prime. Since sqrt(x*y)=sqrt(x)*sqrt(y), and since 5 and 3 are both prime, the square root of their product must be irrational. Makes sense to me.- Reptillian

Graduate Can We Create a Magnetic Field on Mars through Moon Formation?
You wouldn't melt the entire crust, just up to a certain depth. I don't think tectonics is necessary for a magnetic field. That's an exellent suggestion! :) Creative! I like it. We just take a few nuclear powerplants and make a giant grid of electromagnets to protect the planet. That...- Reptillian

Quantum Physics without taking Modern Physics
For me, modern physics helped to get a historical perspective on the quantum theory and bridge it to classical physics ideas. It also helped with a lot of the mathematical background...introduced some ideas from statistics and differential equations and showed how they related to quantum. If...- Reptillian

Graduate Can We Create a Magnetic Field on Mars through Moon Formation?
Wow, you're right. I did a rough estimate and it would take on the order of a hundered billion 50 megaton bombs to melt Mars' crust. I think we're going to need antimatter weapons if we're going to take the liquifaction approach.- Reptillian
