What Would You Do with Unlimited Funds?
For starters, I would open a 24-hour library/cafe. I don't know how many freakin times I've wished for a nice place to study late at night other than my own room. I would also buy a motorcycle (I'm probably actually going to be able to do this soon). And a large diameter (~15-20in) dobsonian...- robertm

Is Love Encoded in the Voyager Golden Record?
The book is Murmurs of Earth, and I highly recommend it. Don't worry, we included a 'read me': This is quoted from the book:- robertm

Undergrad Effort to get us all on the same page (balloon analogy)
6nqpnw: The thread you have posted in is 9 page long attempt to inform and clarify, yet I can see no evidence from your post that you read anything but the title. You don't have to worry about flaming here, but you would do well to read what has already been discussed before wasting all... -

What are your thoughts on Ayn Rand?
Could you rephrase this so as to be more clear as to what exactly it is you are saying? I'm fairly certain that life is a prerequisite of ethics... I think that the point is to say that the concept of 'self-less-ness' is flawed. That in normal human interaction, self-ish-ness is...- robertm

News Sights are off the moon, and maybe put away for good.
ideasrule and aquitaine: Guys, think more basic. Like an atmosphere and water and food. You can't just go to moon and set up shop. Are you really suggesting that not only do we build a moon base capable of manufacturing and launching satellites and other rockets but also capable of having a...- robertm

News Sights are off the moon, and maybe put away for good.
A moon base with crew and supplies capable of producing and launching satellites? :bugeye: You do realizes that the moon does not have the natural resources that we take for granted here on earth? I think that pretty much anything you would actually end up doing on a moon base could just...- robertm

News Sights are off the moon, and maybe put away for good.
Why? We can only spend large amounts of money on human exploration? Do you mean to say that it's programs would yield a lousy public relations return on investment? If you send rovers to distant bodies specifically as precursors to future manned missions, and then don't ever carry out manned...- robertm

Calculus 1 Advice for Kaos: What to Look Out For
Sorry about your troubles kaos86, it is unfortunate. Don't worry to much though, if you really are committed to being a life long scholar of physics a slight postponement in passing a Calc I class will not matter much. If you are sure that you are dropping the class I would definitely...- robertm

News Sights are off the moon, and maybe put away for good.
I'm with turbo-1 and Ivan Seeking, observational Astronomy should be priority number one. I don't see anything inspiring about sending a couple guys to neighbouring bodies; and even if I did, it would count for zilch in determining government spending. If you want to go stand on Mars so bad...- robertm

Simvastatin & Grapefruit: Fatal Interaction?
This is messy, but gives a good overview: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_drugs_affected_by_grapefruit" Obviously, the interactions favourable for recreational use of opiates and benzodiazipines are of the most common interest.- robertm

Simvastatin & Grapefruit: Fatal Interaction?
This seems to be the main culprit in the grapefruit's interactions with drug metabolism: http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/tx970192k" An incomplete (but good) table of substrates, inhibitors, and inducers of the cytochrome p450 III-A-IV enzyme: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYP3A4"...- robertm

What are your thoughts on Ayn Rand?
Yeah I agree with you here. I read and thoroughly enjoyed several of her books (including Atlas Shrugged ) back in high school before really learning anything about her. Though she makes some good thoughtful points, she really does comes across as a nut-job in some of her public...- robertm
