Accidental contact with a radioactive substance
from the bottom of my heart-thank you all for your reassurances. I am going to take your suggestions, and I bet after testing for a while my mind will get bored of this silly phobia and move. Thanks for all of your responses, and maybe in a few weeks I'll let you know how its going with my new...- roy2008

Accidental contact with a radioactive substance
I guess I will try buying a dosimeter. Perhaps that will solve the problem. I thank you all for your comments and time in your responses. I am currently getting psychiatric help-its just that so far it hasnt helped. Oh, well-I'll keep trying. But thank you all again for your advice and comments!- roy2008

Accidental contact with a radioactive substance
Please do not be nervous. I do not work in or around these materials-I actually work in finance. I am asking these questions because I unfiortunately suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder to a very severe degree, and while most with ocd are afraid of germs, etc-my fear happens to be...- roy2008

Can Radiation Be Seen When Contaminated?
if someone accidentally came into contact with radioactive materials-or a container of radioactive material and they became contaminated-would they be able to see the contamination on their skin? I guess what Imsaying is if I don't see a metal or powder on my hands for example, then does that...- roy2008

Is Accidental Radioactive Contamination in Public Spaces a Real Concern?
I know this is ridiculous and I appreciate everyone's comments thus far. I think this is helping me get my hands around my irrational fear of radioactive substances. I was just wondering if anyone here worries about possible accidental contact/contamination by these radioactive materials not in...- roy2008

Radioactive Materials: Skin Contamination Risk & Spread Possibilities
If someone unknowlingly touch a radioactive substance or source, would their skin or hands then be radioactive? And also-could you spread contamination if you touched a solid source? or it could only spread in powder form? what is the likelihood of becoming contaminated by a source for a normal...- roy2008

Radioactive materials irrational fears
Thank you Russ-I appreciate your comments. It helps show the absolute ridiculousness of my disorder which helps. Funny thing is radon gas wouldn't bother me. My father had it in his basement, and I have no problem going into his basement. Its been taken care of, of course, but neverthe less it...- roy2008

Radioactive materials irrational fears
One other question too. I also always have a fear when washing, etc that the water is running through a smoke detector and being contamintaed with amercicium. Is this possible? What would happen if water was run through a smoke detector and then you came into contact with it?- roy2008

Radioactive materials irrational fears
Ok-one more nutty question/concern. Perhaps I just need to see a psychiatrist-but here goes. Sometimes at home or at work-I worry that plutonium or some other harmful radioactive material has found its way onto my desk, and then I don't want to touch things on my desk. other times, when I go to...- roy2008

Radioactive materials irrational fears
I really appreciate everyone's input and time with htis "quirk" of mine. I am feeling a little bit better and I just keep telling myself that logically, there is no way I would encounter any of these types of materials. I guess what scares me the most is the fact you can't see/detect it without...- roy2008

Radioactive materials irrational fears
I know this will sound nuts, because it kind of is, but I though maybe someone could talk some sense into me. I suffer from ocd and irrational fears about radioactive substances. I realize that we are surrounded by and constantly bombarded by radiation. That doesn't bother me. Nor does having...- roy2008
