Mass Energy Conversion: Can Energy be Converted to Mass?

I don't know basically anything about nuclear physics, but I do know that mass can be converted to energy. Nuclear reactions, anti-matter, etc. But can energy be converted into mass? If so, where would this happen?

Potential Vacuum Energy: Does it Double Every 11B Years?

Let's say I have a 5m3 cube of air and right next to it a 5m3 vacuum. Does the cube of air have potential energy? According to that, the potential energy would be converted into kinetic energy when the cube of air and the vacuum were joined. Would vacuum energy be the initial potential energy of...

Can Space Really Be Created or Destroyed?

vacuum energy? a vacuum is space with nothing in it.

Can Space Really Be Created or Destroyed?

I don't really understand how this makes sense. Space, in my mind, cannot be created nor destroyed. It just is there, and always will be there, maybe it can be stretched, but it is there. But apparently space can be created? How is this possible? Space isn't really an object, has no mass...

Can Two Particles in a Vacuum Attract Each Other?

I've been thinking about this. I don't know a whole lot about physics so I'm sorry if I ask something stupid. If there are two particles in a vacuum, according to the theory of gravity, the two particles will be attracted to each other and collide. But, how does this one particle know that there...

Faster than Light Travel Side Effects

well I've thought about this. If you turned around while traveling the speed of light and stayed stationary relative to yourself, you would see nothing, because there would be no photons entering your eyeball. And if you moved your head slightly forward while facing backwards you would see a...

Is the speed of light truly unattainable?

is it correct that some photons travel faster than others?

Is the speed of light truly unattainable?

< editorial cut by staff > photons DO have zero mass at rest. But when they are at their constant speed, they gain mass, slight mass. < editorial cut by staff > "what you believe is completely irrelevant... to any discussion taking place here at PF" Now that is just dumb.

Is the speed of light truly unattainable?

I currently believe that the speed of light cannot be achieved. Even light itself is not as fast as the speed of light. Technically, a photon gains some mass as it has speed, although it is extremely small, and as things with mass get closer and closer to the speed of light, their mass gains...

    Kinematics: 3 unknowns, find Time.

    i got V = 20.04 m/s (correct answer from teacher is 20.05) calculations: Vxo = Vcos10 Vyo = Vsin10 20 = (Vcos10)t t = (20.3/v) -1.5 = (Vsin10)(20.3/v) + (1/2)(-9.8)(20.3/v)^2 -1.5 = (V's cancel out, so do 20.3 times sin10) -1.5 = (3.52) - 4.9(20.3/v)^2 5.02 = 4.9(20.3/v)^2 1.026 =...

figured it out. did this earlier but I didn't see the answer for some reason? AP physics test tomorrow wish me luck o.O i'll need it!

    Kinematics: 3 unknowns, find Time.

Thanks for the help >:( I found Vxo and Vyo in terms of V using sohcahtoa, then I plugged it into and delta X = VxoT and found out T (t = 20.3/v). I plugged Vyo and T into my third eqn. above and got V=1. There's my attempt.

Expanding Universe: Galaxies & Matter Explained

then what? after it is done accelerating it compacts again and "the big bang" happens again? if so, i wonder how many times this has happened? Has this happened an infinite number of times? will history repeat itself? Has the Earth been here before the big bang? What's the point to life if we...
