High credit scores for young adults?

How do brokerages work here? If I have, e.g., $50k available margin, and am using $50k, does this count as "credit"? Is it reported to the bureaus?

Your thoughts/experiences on hard science grads going the MBA route?

Background: BS physics, double minors in chem and math, c/o 2008. Started with chem major, but switched to physics for interest/challange. No absolute career goals, but always considered bigpharma as a good place to go. Considered physics grad school, but never that interested in teaching...

LaTeX Install LaTeX Plugin in Microsoft Word

I prefer MathType for typing up papers and what have you. There's a free 'MT Lite' version, and the original program runs about the same as MatLab and Mathmatica, ~ $100.

Testing Are Older Edition SAT II Prep Books Still Effective?

College Confidential is a great board; very informative. If you are willing to pay for an overseas phone call, you can call Princeton Review at 800-2Review. Or visit PrincetonReview.com and ask, perhaps? Personally, I would strongly recommend buying the newest version of the prep book if...

Testing No. 2 pencils and scantron exams

A #2 pencil is HB. It refers to the grade -- hardness or softness -- of the lead: #1 = B, #2 = HB, #3 = H, and #4 = 2H, where you can think of H as Hard and B as... umm... not hard... lol, don't know what that one stands for. Many drafting pencils are made for use by drawers/sketchers who need...

Schools Schools taking displaced Tulane/Loyola students

I know this isn't of particular interest to most people, but I figured I would help spread the information for those who might find it applicable for friends or loved ones. Alabama http://uanews.ua.edu/anews2005/sep0...elief090105.htm Arkansas http://dailyheadlines.uark.edu/5209.htm...

What are some popular science songs and albums?

Bad Religion - Entropy  Vintersorg - Lots of his work uses themes from astronomy and science, eg. Formulas of an ethereal intellect strayed through black and empty planes, into the auditorium of evolution. In devious ways magic came and created a spectra of fiery celestial...

Schools Rank these schools for undergraduate Chem Engineering, please

It's hard to say, especially without defining majors or what constitutes a well known school. If you're talking Princeton versus some state university satellite school, then the answer is obvious. Similarly if you're comparing a chemical engineering major at Cal-Tech versus an english major...

Schools Rank these schools for undergraduate Chem Engineering, please

Berkeley is sometimes considered a "public ivy"... it constantly ranks in at the top 5 public universities. It is an excellent school for science in general, as well as engg, and it's prestige is definitely a benefit. In my opinion, the school as a whole, and the environment contained therein...

Navigating Transferring to University with Academic Challenges

Most 4-year universities will have a place on the application for you to inform them of any academic discrepancies. Assuming you have a valid reason, and the rest of your record is solid, I do not think they would look too down upon you for that. Remember, the adcomms are human, too. Sometimes...

Schools Rank these schools for undergraduate Chem Engineering, please

You'll need a bare minimum 3.0 to transfer. I don't think anyone's chances of transferring to a UC from out of state, especially Berkeley, would be very good without top stats and EC's. Transferring is not an easy process... especially if done during the semester. I would suggest making very...
